Having enjoyed Vegemite on my toast - in Tazzie - I am honored that you would read my words and comment. Thank you for noticing the humour as I believe that it is humour which allows us endure the challenges of life. My business trips to Oz are among the most cherished memories that this old man has. Full truth: Way back when, I could only make it to the end of the chain at Uluru. And, I never fully grasped the exact spelling of "Fair Dinkum", Good onya for your note!

That's the right spelling, me old mate. I've never been to Uluru, but my husband has climbed it. I did get to Alice Springs once-- spent a week in Kalgoorlie doing school writing workshops and also did one in Alice--but, alas, didn't get to see the big red rock.

One more Texas tale. You've got me all fired up. On my first business trip to Oz, I had finished up in Adelaide and got on a plane around midnight for the trip out to Perth. A gentleman sat down next to me and started to ask where I was from and how was I finding Oz. I said, "Except for y'all's accents and the names of your beers, it's just like home!"
He laughed and said ask, "how is that?"
"Well, I am from Texas. We know how hot hot can be! And, poisonous snakes? We got 'em, too. many kinds!
And, sharks. Around Galveston. And politicians. And, good beer and bar b q. But, the most common denominator is that we have Dallas and Houston who argue constantly about who is best; in food, culture, sports -everything. Melbourne and Sydney make me feel right at home. My town, Houston is more blue collar. Dallas is fancy. See the point?"
He laughed and complimented my point. " No more old man stories tonight. I promise.
