Great poem! I love the idioms and turn of phrase in this one. I also enjoyed the rhyming scheme as well, very tight and concise. Unfortunately for me however, i can relate very much to this poem lol :)

I really like the way you've woven all those idioms into your lovely, well rhymed and metered verse. And composed a story that makes good, solid sense. This is 'up my street' and a pleasure to read and a winner 'as sure as eggs are eggs.' Well done and good luck! Debbie

I smiled at the twist at the end of your poem. You did a good job choosing the idioms that best fit this poem and the journey through the poem, the telling of the story, with the twist at the end that made me smile.

Yes who can tell how love will flourish or not - excellent use of idiom throughout, carefully and effectively woven into the stanzas - no 6 left at this end of week.

A very skillful use of multiple idioms to tell humorous tale. Normally I cringe when poets resort to idioms, but this was the aim here and each idiom fits well. I tried to do it myself and failed miserably. congratulations

This was very ingenious. I liked the way you managed to incorporate all the various idioms without sounding forced. And you told a complete story as well. Good luck in the contest.

Seems like he tried hard - but she played hard to get once too often, and the whole thing fell through. Sometimes the strategy backfires, and by the time she realises, it's too late. Best wishes for the contest.

You have made a wonderful job of this and I predict it will do very well in the contest. Good luck!

The strength of you piece is three-fold. Firstly the entertaining and humorous story. Next the sheer number of well-known idioms that you managed to cam in. And finally - the hardest to achieve perhaps - you wrapped all those phrases up into a well-rhymed poem with excellent meter.

I am pondering how I would have gone about this task. I think I would have started by searching out and listing possible phrases - easy enough in these internet days - and then selecting the best ones to go with the tale and the rhyme.

Thank you so much, Steve! Your review is greatly appreciated. It's funny; this came about kind of backwards. After reading the prompt, the last two lines just came to me. So, I built the story around them to fit. Haha
