This is an original presentation, setting it up as a newspaper article! I think it definitely fits with prompt (and I created it, so I should know) :-)
Your story has a hometown feeling to it, from everybody minding your business to the folksy celebration.
I remember where I was that summer. I was 10 years old and the Freedom Train was parked about a hundred yards behind my house. The only things I remember seeing on the train were a piece of moon rock and Dorothy's ruby slippers.
This is a well-written piece. Best of luck in the contest!

Thank you, Julie, for reading this post and for the very nice review. I was at an open market event in NH when the bells and whistles went off that day. I hope our country is well enough for its 300th celebration.
Best regards and have fun with your writing.
Dick

You list this story as fiction, but it sounds so true. The story introduces the celebration of America's 200th birthday, and then proceeds with mystery and suspense. What are the police finding when they investigate activities at the Oak Hill Road farm? The mystery is pleasantly resolved in your happy ending. Best wishes in the contest.

Thank you again, LJ, for reading this post and for the very nice review. My stepson inherited that farm from his grandparents after taking care of them in their dying days. The new owner rebuilt the farm, and all would be pleased with the results.
Best regards again,
Dick
