I absolutely agree, Mark, and this poem is a perfect example of how to write a 5-7-5 and how to avoid writer's block. In my opinion, there is no such thing. I will often switch to another story, or even try my hand at a poem, in order to keep the creative juices flowing. Stopping is the worst thing one can do.
I hope you do well in this contest, as you've done well in writing this.

I absolutely agree, Mark, and this poem is a perfect example of how to write a 5-7-5 and how to avoid writer's block. In my opinion, there is no such thing. You are so right with your analysis. I use that technique as well. I took class many years ago that required the class to write 3 pages a day. We were to write them in longhand each morning. This class lead me to writing poetry.

Hi Mark,
This is good advice that a lot of people don't follow because when they have writer's block they fear the empty white page and the idea they won't have any ideas.
Keep writing and stay healthy.

Occasionally, after closing that document and going back to it a day or two later -- presto! A seed of a poem has sprouted!

Just write is right, our heads hold enough worries, dreams, tasks ect... to fill volumes of books. You captured a great topic in 5-7-5 syllables which usually would make me s few rewrites to pair down after the initial thoughts. This is an excellent entry for the 5-7-5 writing prompt. I try to make myself do this during dry spells. Sometimes it works. Put the pen in your hand and force yourself to write anything and see what happens. It doesn't always work but I would estimate that it works more times than it doesn't. good job and good luck
