Speaking of grits, I love them. My Mom's Mom was the first woman Principal in the state of Texas. So we came from strong stock. Thaks for the read. Karen

I appreciate your kind words. This is fiction based on fact. As we age most of us have done battle a time or two. Someday I might take Skeletor's hand when It is offered, But not today. :-)

That ol' grim reaper gets his way, ultimately, every time - sooner, or later. If his scythe don't get you, he may try his knife. All else failing, he may just bean you with a rock.
Well written. Well constructed. (Believing those to be two different things.)

Just look him the face, put your thumb to your nose, and wag it at him. He can wait and learn to be more patient about it. You have things to do and places to go and people to meet.

I read this a few days ago but was waiting for Sunday so I could six this. A powerful read and stands as a testimony to your tenacity.

Death comes for us all, but hopefully on our own terms of acceptance.

Great writing!

I am stubborn and rarely admit defeat. I stayed in bad marriages too long because I was sure I could fix it. Thank you my froggy friend for the nice comments and pretty stars. Karen :-)

Wow, I wish you went into more detail about your experiences, this reminds me of my father in law, he is 91 and currently in hospital fighting bilateral pneumonia, he also has fought death and at its door many times,

I appreciate the strong imagery and the theme of relentlessness in the poem. I find the speaker's defiance and determination inspiring The poem is powerful and thought-provoking.

Perhaps he's not very bright and just doesn't yet realize what a tough old bird you are. Although he may get you in the end, sounds like you've put up a first class defense against him, and you're certainly not making his job very easy. Bravo, Karen, and keep on fighting him. Maybe you'll wear him down, and the rest of us will then have a better chance of avoiding him. So, thank you for that.

I get the feeling that God has an ironic sense of humor, and will assign me pick up duty when I get there, as I will have plenty of experience in making the grim reapers wait on me! By the way they look like sweet grandmas and grandpas.:-)

Very well written, Karen. Admitting that you have stood on the edge, teetering in the wind, maybe even feeling the hands of "death" pushing you, but a strong er spirit, one of survival, lives inside you, and you find your way back into the light. I believe many have been there, and for whatever reason, we find our way back until the time is right.
Smiles, Carol

Thanks so much. I appreciate all your nice comments. "I will not go softly into that good night." I feel like I am here for a reason. As long as I feel that way, I fight. Karen

You show this as being fiction, but from what you've told me, it's really non-fiction. Having said this, you could take the idea here - of Death coming in hot time and again for one who isn't ready to go and will fight to the death (pun intended) - and develop it into a tug-of-war story involving Death and a fictional character. Who wins? We'll see:-)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts through this story. I think we're all fighting the same enemy.

Happy Sunday,

xo
Pam
