Now, Jim, so things are starting to look up . But Warren is still a conundrum, but Alan seems to be on his tail. Now onto the next chapter. I liked the way you tracked down to be mother. Ulla:)))

Thanks, Ulla. We can add amateur sleuthing to Alan's list of strengths.

Warren probably grew up poor, and started gambling thinking he could make a quick buck. What does a man like Warren do with one-hundred thousand dollars? His mother said both of her sons were good for nothing. I wonder if she blames herself. Ha! This story has been full of unexpected surprises throughout, and demonstrates your creativity and imagination. I look forward to the next chapters.

Thanks, Lorraine. I guess he spent a lot of it to pay off the debt he owed and probably will use the rest to start gambling again. He doesn't seem to learn that he's not that good at it and continually gets in debt. He'll blow the rest in no time.

Good on Alan's determination after being blamed for things he didn't do then having his ideas stolen. Lessons learned. A good finish deciding to discuss it all with Ginnie. The Meyers boys sound like trouble to me. Another good read Jim.
Cheers

Thanks, Valda. Right you are about the Meyers boys. Poor parenting it would seem.

Nicely written. Good progress in the story.
Well, well. I guess we have an idea of where Warren got his morals. Dear old mother is quite the charmer.
Best wishes.

Thanks, Wayne. Yeah, I guess you reap what you sow. He may have had a very different life had he had decent parenting.

Alan has another big project in front of him, finding a no-good gambler who is suddenly rich and has money that should be Alan's. Also, he has important information on Alan's hard drive about other possible inventions. His new project is a good addition to Alan's story.

Thanks, Carol. What's on that drive has the potential to make him a fortune, which I think he realizes. Plus, it must stick in his craw to see someone else capitalize on his good ideas.

That's a very clever, talking to Warren's mother as to the likely destination of her son, acting as a pastor is very clever. But his mother doesn't think much of him either, but the chase could be lots of fun Jim, well done, blessings Roy

Thanks, Roy. He's not bad for an amateur sleuth. We're in for a bit of excitement now that he has a whiff of the trail.

Or he could've hired a real private investigator or gone after him right after he was robbed. But the real question is, given the type of man David is, what would he do if he found him in another state?

Interesting chapter.

notes:

She was quite impressed by the invention, which I brought with us.

-Why would he bring the invention? The original was stolen and sold. He luckily got it back. He doesn't yet have a patent or even an application.

Your first question will be answered shortly.

I think he brought the glasses with him to dinner on a whim, and didn't even think about someone robbing him of them in broad daylight. That would be too strange.
reply by lancellot on 27-Apr-2024
I don't think he would be robbed either, but I mean how he seems to learn or not learn from his experiences. If a normal person went through what David did, and almost lose a potential fortune, would you casually bring the invention out to dinner to show a child (who didn't ask him to) with no precautions on a whim? I don't know if that scene is needed for your story, but his actions make him seem....

Good for Alan! Not only is he great inventor, great husband and dad, but now he's also pretty good as a private investigator even impersonating a pastor to get his info on Warren. But Warren probably didn't keep the hard drive. I wonder if he sold it in some hardware scrap shop?

That could be, but knowing Warren as he does now, he doesn't trust him with all the other invention ideas on the hard drive. He doesn't want to go through with this hassle again, especially since he's got the equivalent of Bluetooth technology defined on there, which hasn't been invented yet.

Good that the matter of patent pending is now all resolved. It seems that Warren is even worse than one might have imagined at first. Definitely no tears to be shed when he eventually gets his comeuppance. Gambling addiction has tragic consequences for all concerned.

That's for sure. He had some talent and could have been successful, but his addiction got him. A fascinating subject, addiction. I'm thinking my next story might be about that.

Alright...
Moving along and trying to find that weasel thief Warren. Though it may be hard, Alan is on a mission to not be taken for granted any longer ... as he stated :

I don't know which is worse: people blaming me for things I didn't do or people taking credit for things I did, but I've had enough of both

Couple of corrections:

This morning, (The next morning,) the first order of business was to complete

It could take up to six months, but as (at) least I now

We'll see if Alan can track him down. Exciting story, an easy read. Let's find out what happens.
