Yikes. This is a very well-written exposition of pastoral beauty and vivid imagery as brilliant as a word painting. Who needs the darn bench anyway? You did just fine going your own way, Tom.
(I often wondered about the aforementioned "aforementioned." Just saying...
According to some dumb grammer site dot.com (yes I made that up)
"Aforementioned" is used to refer to something that has already been mentioned, while "forementioned" is used to refer to something that will be mentioned later on."
Excuse me?
Please pass the SCOTCH!

Sad... but all I have is Old Tyme lemonade and OJ. Gave up licker because it drove me more insane than I am today, but in the day Scotch would have taken a back seat to Bourbon.

Actually, my liver disease precludes partaking... Not that I ever did to excess...
But yes... Makers Mark is a fond memory!

You are definitely one of my favorite writers. You are odd enough to stand out from the same old thing people. There are lots in here who write one type of thing over and over--boring. I write everything in every genre. I am not trying to be perfect in one thing. I want to write. You seem the same. Good writing:-)

I can either take the credit for the diversity written or... give credit to a demented mind that takes the lead, like a mother teaching her son to dance, then finding he has rhythm so she enrolled me in an Arthur Murray dance studio. That lasted until the instructor had me dance with another guy. Exit - stage left - never to return.

Yikes, meal for the grist! :-)

Your writing always makes me laugh. I wanted to know where the bench was, too. You have done your usual marvelous job with the writing prompt. Nice work.

The terms forementioned and aforementioned are both adjectives that refer to something that has been mentioned before. However, the term forementioned is very rarely used and may be considered outdated or incorrect. The correct and more commonly used term is aforementioned. It is used to reference previously mentioned items, ideas, or subjects in a document, article, or discussion. You can delete that question now and leave your writing uncluttered.

Oh, what a great place to just hangout and take a nap. I'll never forget the time I gassed up at the dock and headed out on a little fishing excursion. The attention had asked what kind of bait I'd be needing. To which I replied, "I don't need any. This is going to be a relaxing fishing trip; no bait, therefore, no fish to deal with. :-) Thanks for sharing.

Can fishing be a bucolic/pastoral experience since there is no pasture underfoot? You could always toss a plug with no hooks, otherwise, you cannot claim you went fishing but boating would be okay.

We sometimes view scenes in photographs and our imagination kicks into overdrive as we recall memories of sights, sounds and smells, this is what you did here Tom, you let your imagination run wild, you found some solace in this scene, love Dolly x

A painter without a brush.... your vivid, humorous, and playful imagination made a perfect spot for you within Mother Nature, and then you proceeded to lead us deep into the afternoon of wonder.
A writer who caught the "reader" with hook, line and sinker. A very enjoyable read. I love to sit by the water and enjoy.

I do too like to sit by a brook and muse away save for the walk I MUST take to get to where it is; therefore I stay at home!
Be well and smile, and have the world smile with you.

I'm fortunate...the river runs through my back yard. Have a great day!
Comment from Gloria ....
This is really quite brilliant. I also relish these places where a Kingfisher seeks a tasty morsel to eat. "Perhaps a creek chub or pumpkinseed should nature cooperate." Nothing beats that.
Pearl ie Valda would thoroughly enjoy this exquisite write.
Personally I would delete the word aforementioned entirely as it almost speaks of legalise to me. A completely extraneous word in this setting.
Enjoyed this very much. :)

But.... I'm an extraneous type of guy like Steve Martin, save I don't play the banjo, in fact the only music I play is on a radio! Thank you for your time and suggestion.

Steve Martin is the Jerk isn't he?

In our country Leslie is the masculine form and Lesley is the feminine. I could just picture you there beside the stream, musing in the sunshine and then quietly nodding off - but your muse remained alert and helped you write a story, with a few poetic devices thrown in for a bit of variety. Well done.

Tom, Leslie or Sue...
the artist who created the scene with the bench did not paint in a cane pole, line and bobber. (A hook, you need a hook) otherwise you'll stay hungry for a long time.
Was it the mosquitos that woke you? Or the "a"-formentioned flys.
For not knowing what to write, you presented us with a fine post to read...
Cheers,
John

I'll add a hook. Why not, it's not in competition. And some review commented aforemention if formerly whereas foremoention is ahead. Did you know that? Appreciate your comment John.
