It's funny how things stick in our minds, even when we don't think we remember them. I read along enjoying your story, as always; and then, you ended with "They are here," and goose bumps ran all over me. Yes, I know you didn't say "They're here." But it was close enough, and took me back to Heather O'Rourke's line in the Poltergeist. Sadly, the beautiful young lady died before Poltergeist III was released. Thanks for sharing

I certainly do remember that movie. That stupid clown doll scared the hell out of me. The movie seemed so ahead of its time when it was released. Thank you for this nice review. Gretchen

This is a very nerve-wracking situation for Momma and Heddy. You do a good job of showing what they do so that we can see the tension. You also ended on a great cliffhanger.

Oh, man, I want to know what happens next. Is Willis coming home? Poor mom was really sad, happy, stressed, hopeful, scared.... so many feelings! I have a son, I understand how she feels.

Well done, another great chapter.

Rejoining a military person who has been gone for a long period of time can be a scary proposition for young children like Heddy. It also requires a readjustment period for everyone involved.

Big brothers are supposed to be "kind of mean" to younger siblings. It is all part of family life.

Willis returning helps move the storyline along.

Siblings can be very mean. I'm sure they are all going to be adjusting. Thank you for this. Gretchen

I can understand the nervousness of the wait. I can't wait until your next post. I want Willis home. Thank you for sharing.

He squats down next to my bed and brushes my hair off of my cheek. (you can omit 'down', squats covers it.)

he happiness in his voice as he said "you're doing it, Heddy. ("You're)

I'm simply loving this story, Gretchen. I don't know why I'm feeling dread. I'm hoping for happy events, but that's not always the case in real life especially not in fiction. I can't figure out my science of dread, though. Lol

Best, JohnC

There has to be some heart break so you know that's coming. Feeling dread is appropriate. Thank you. I'm tickled you are enjoying this story. Gretchen

Two years is a long time to be away from family. During the Pandemic I didn't see my family for 18 months as I was isolated abroad and couldn't get home, it was awful. When I finally battled to get a flight home there were tears at the airport when I was welcomed back. There is nothing more important than family Gretchen. Your sensitive post is touching and I can't wait for the next chapter. Love Dolly x x x

I just wish you hadn't stopped there! But it was a very clever place to stop - of course I'll be back. You portrayed very well her mother's nervous anxiety and the dialogue was very well done. The climax - I just hope he will be okay, but I fear he will have PTSD. looking forward to the next chapter.

Thank you so much, Wendy. I had to stop it there. It would have been too long. Lol. I really can't thank you enough for the sixth star. Gretchen

Hello Gretchen,
this was outstanding gal. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. I can imagine that Heddy's mom would be on edge waiting, especially after so long of a time worrying about Willis. The dialogue between Heddy and her mom over who's winning at checkers was priceless. Well done.
Have a blessed evening.
Tom
