You may not like this review as my opinion of the teacher is way different from yours based on what you wrote about her.

That, so called "favorite teacher" was way out of line to throw your book in the trash. For several reasons. First off, it was not her property to discard. Sounds like she belonged in the trash receptacle herself.

Would have walked right up and retrieved my book. If teachie-poo did not like that would have created a major issue. Some "favorite" teacher.

"face of kindness?" "heart of gentleness?" "voice of comfort?" Not expressions I would have used to describe any teacher who tossed my property into the trash?

So, do believe my opinion of this teacher would have been much different.

Thank you for your involved review. I think one of the things we have to keep in mind is this was back in the 50s & I was 10 years old. There was no such thing as speaking out for ourselves as girls or standing up for ourselves. It was back then we just did what we were supposed to do. Girls did anyway. Maybe boys did not, although the boys who did act out in my class lined up against the chalk board and were whacked with a clapboard that was probably 1 1/2 x 1/4 in. I was glad I wasn't a boy. Teachers could do anything they wanted to back then and no one ever spoke up or said anything against it, it just wasn't done. If I hadn't had all these wonderful affirmations and wonderful things said about me by her I definitely would be pissed off. She was the only teacher I liked so it tells you what the rest of my teachers were like. bwaaa

What a lovely tribute to this kind teacher, however I would have hated her forever, all she had to do was put it on her desk, return it to you and warn never to bring it to class again, or else it will go in the trash. You mentioned it was a comfort when you needed it, how did you comfort yourself afterwards?

Thank you for your compassionate review. That's a darn good question What I did for a comfort after that because my camel was gone. I have a way of getting beyond bitterness and resentment. It's a gift I have. I don't know where it comes from but I was able to get beyond my hurt and bitterness.

Are you familiar with Eckhart Tolle. He has been my prophet with saving grace wisdom. He's on you tube with any theme called for. I am also 77 so you may be have some time to grow.

It is amazing what a profound effect a really good (or really bad) teacher can have on young minds. This is a lovely recognition of a teacher who was important to you. Even with the misunderstanding, she continues to inspire you!
A lovely and uniquely presented piece.

It was sad about your comic, and in a way, bringing it to school and letting you friend look at it in lesson time, was asking for it to be taken away. As children we don't understand this, and I can understand the hurt you felt, especially as it was you favourite teacher. You didn't say what her reaction to the poem was. I had a lovely sewing teacher, she helped me so much when I was making a dress. It was lovely too!! Her name was Mrs Rutherford, an amazing teacher. Unfortunately, my next teacher hated me, Mr Jones. I will write the story about him. He was awful. I enjoyed reading this very much, Liz, and the poem was lovely. Well done! Warmest hugs, Sandra xx

Thank you for your moving review. Mrs W was very quiet when she heard me read it. She smiled but she was very quiet, probably very touched. We teachers, when some of our students say something so profound about how we affected them, we are just very quiet.
I look forward to your writing about that unkind teacher, Mr. Jones.

It is so nice to have a nurturing teacher in your life. There are a lot of them who are gifted teachers and others who should have chosed a different career. When we have a good one in our life we never forget her.I'ver had only three that stand out in my life. Your story is excellent an so is your poem.

Thank you for your lovely review. I was asked to put this bit about Mrs W in a special book. l wondered whether I should take this out of my other book but then I realized no this is somebody else's book so I keep it in my own book so it's in two places now. I'm glad you have had three good teacher experiences very nice. I think I had three good experiences in high school.

It seems like I read this same part of your life under a different title last week or earlier this week. Could that have happened? Or did I read it an forget to send a review?

Thank you for your review of Mrs. W in2 places .I was asked to include that section in a book about teaching or having experiences with a teacher. At first I was going to remove this from my own chapter so then I got thinking no this is in someone else's book. I want to keep it in my own book so it's in two books.

Hi Liz, I'm so confused. I thought that I had read your story about Mrs. W.
Mrs. W is an example of what a teacher should be. I'm sure your heart was broken when your comic book was thrown into the trash. I almost thought that you were going to sneak back into school and retrieve the comic book. However, if you were caught, the consequences would not have been nice. Of special note:

Teaching us
Not just
How to read
How to do arithmetic
How to express ourselves

(Mrs. W was teaching everyone on how to be the person waiting to blossom from within.)

Well done; well told. I'm looking forward to reading more. Margaret

Thank you for your compassionate review.

I was asked to put that teacher story on another book. It was about teachers. At first I was going to take this off my chapter but my chapter is in my book, so I have the same story in both books. The next chapter is when we're getting into sixth grade a little more colorful.

Thank you for your enjoyable review. I also listen to different people's chapters on my computer. Especially if someone has one about 3,000 words long I am so glad that I can listen to it on my computer. I do my best except to keep it to about a thousand words. This is abbreviated for the purpose of fitting into this share a bookstore. I use it to proofread my own chapters. It's really fun hearing your own story be read aloud.

I enjoyed this very much and it brought back memories. I was in kindergarten and a neighbor boy walked me to school and bought me a Lone Ranger mask for 15 cents, a lot of money at tht time. I was told to take it off in line. Later I put it back on and it was taken from me for good. Funny how you never forget things like that. I wonder if there's a mystical land where these things appear again.

I thought I wrote my response but maybe not. What I said was this: what such a great idea to have the mystical land that we would go to to find out our treasures that were thrown away. I love the idea and I wanted to borrow it a little bit and use it. But yeah I also want you to be able to use it in something you're writing cuz it is classic.

In my other thing wherever that is wouldn't hurt to have each of us have a similar theme in our books. Too bad for others if they don't like it. And as I said, maybe we can go together to find that magic land.

Thank you for granting my wish to have Mrs. W included in this book! I'm thankful that God gave you that one bright light of a caring teacher when you had suffered in school at the hands of other teachers. As as result, you became such a caring teacher!
