what is a New Jersey guy doing cooking southern??? and you're absolutely right about the chicken thigh having the most flavor. My Dad, who grew up in Georgia (as did I), used to call the thigh, the second joint. I guess the first joint was the leg.
Your Bartlett pear recipe sounded good, too. I'm getting hungry reading your post. Sounds like you were having fun!

Isn?t everyone southern once a week? Plus who doesn?t enjoy fried chicken? Yes baked Bartlett pears are awesome. Give it a try.
    Thank you, Katharine

A most entertaining load of waffle! I'm also an aficionado of the corny joke! Your crispy chicken waffles sound delicious. Almost as good as the Barbados artisanal rum. Nah! Perhaps not...

What time did you say we should be over?
:-)

You know you're right up there with the hibachi chef at our favorite Japanese restaurant....for dinner and a show. He loves squirting soy sauce in my daughter's soda when she isn't looking.

A wonderful post. Once you recover from the rum I have some boring suggestions for the piece (not your food!)

butter sauce to drizzle over the chicken which floats down
(chicken, which...) I had to laugh...without the comma, your chicken is trying to float down into the waffle squares!

Weight Watchers would kick me out and discontinue my membership if I indulged in this delicious 'thin-people-only' meal. I weigh 128 pounds and want to keep it that way. However, I can make this for my husband who has had a restaurant version before. He would be so pleased with me. The baked pear sounds really tempting. Thank you for this meal suggestion.

This was well penned. Good sensory imagery all through.

A cook with humor and lots of flavor.... Worth every rolled eye and scoff over the dad jokes. I absolutely smiled and had a chuckle or two through out the entire story. Thanks so much.... and I loved the menu.
Smiles, Carol

It's only 11:30 a.m. and I'm on a health kick and you have just awakened the beast in me. I used to go to a restaurant in town that was known for their chicken n waffles. It was a real treat to eat them. Sadly, they closed down. But, I guess that's a good thing, otherwise I'd be kicking off my slippers and jumping in the car. This sounded delicious. Gretchen

This is my kind of dish, John. My daughter is visiting soon, and you've given me a great idea for breakfast one morning. Two of my favorite foods paired together. It doesn't get any better than that for breakfast.

We've always loved breakfast for dinner too. One of our family favorites was a German Apple Pancake recipe that was terrific.

This is making my mouth water now, as your posts often do. See you later while I go indulge myself.

You made me smile with your Shakespeare quote and your presentation of a tasty dish will delight the audience here. Not sure waffles and chicken go together, but I am no expert chef like yourself! I never eat waffles, but my Grandchildren love them and I am certain they would love your recipe John, a fine post, love Dolly x

While it sounds like a wonderful creation, there would be too much sweetness for me - maple syrup AND a honey sauce? Plus a pear with more maple syrup ... Hmm ... where are the green vegetables?
In general we only have a little maple syrup on waffles and ice-cream, but I have noticed it is used much more widely in the US. What I love is your creativity and originality! I will have to start following your lead (perhaps starting with your exuberant joy in cooking, and then realising there is more to life than the five healthy food groups (which advocate FIVE servings a vegetables a day!!) LOL. I loved your post, even the "dad" jokes.
