Enjoyed your well crafted tanka that starts with setting seasonal scene and then moves to the "hordes of pink blossoms" which are on the "outstretched branches" stretching to the sky. Great use of alliteration and consonance and personification. Best wishes in the contest!

Oh, the beauty of the south. They are blooming now. The smell of my sweet bay magnolia by the lake (they are smaller blooms and thrive by a water source) is intoxicating. Beautifully written and illustrated tanka for the contest.

This is a lovely tanka about a lovely tree. Every spring I drive my mother to a few towns over where there is a 1700s stone farmhouse with a magnolia tree out front that must be at least a hundred years old. It is massive, covers more lawn than the house does. It's as tall as the house but the branches also extend to the ground, giving it the appearance of a massive bush. Just a stunning spectacle when in bloom. Anyway, I liked your choice of tree and the beautiful way you described it!
