Hi Val, your poem is profound, and it gets to the heart of addiction.
Of special note:
sold for drugs
Addiction shatters another dream
(So true, and some things cannot be replaced.)
Well done. As this is a contest entry, I wish you good luck. Xo. M

Your Naani poem tells a very sad story. Excellent word choice to reveal
the tragedy. I see that you won the contest and it is well deserved.
Congratulations.

Thank you so much for this lovely review

This poem started out lovely, but it became harsh and tragic. It was upsetting, so congratulations on getting such a reaction. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.

Addiction robs the soul of boundaries, morals and conscience, how do I know? An alcoholic who compulsively gambled even with a young family, I met God, He told me to stop, replacing compulsion with Himself, a place for family, my girls and my wife, knew what change can do. Beautifully written, all people need God, blessings Roy

Thank you for this amazing revision. Addiction is in all families. This why I wrote this, but many choose to ignore the signs

Bless you

A sad commentary on our culture today which has become saturated with drugs. A family's heirloom is sold because someone is addicted. A lot of narrative crammed into 24 syllables. This Naani deserved to win. Congrats! Rod

Your poem hits home. To many of my friends have suffered from this problem. Their children rob them for drugs, and they are left broken with a double. First about the drug inflicted child, then from what was stolen.

Agree, it's a really heart breaking, and is more common than people want to think about. Thank you for your insightful review

The sweetest presentation and yet sending out a strong message that dreams can be instantly destroyed through drugs. The power of your verse is in the contrast between the first two lines and the last two. Well done and good luck! Debbie

much deeper content than the other entries read so far, but i can see that happening. Anything for a penny to spend for a toke, a brick or a snort, which beltttles the value of the pearl's work.

Exactly, nothing matters but that next fix. You have dealt with an addict in your life
-
No addicts that I know of in my life, past or present and hopefully the future.
