I enjoyed this poem with its strong meaning and metaphor. I had actually never heard that description used before for depression. the artwork is perfect for this poem. Thank you for sharing.

Hi Debra. I really like this. I see the black dog as exemplifying a free spirit exploring the countryside while one walks ahead step by step. Yet each adds to the other's enjoyment of the moment.

Thank you so much for sharing. :)

-Great artwork and nice presentation, Debra.
-Your note is appreciated.
-You did a good job with the two line haiku.
-A very good first line shows how healing
is not an easy process and takes time.
-A very good second line gives the reason why.
-Very well done.

Excellent entry for the haiku club. Thank you very much for participating. Good syllables count and connection between lines. Well done.

Your poem was lovely at first glance, but I reread it after reading your author's notes and saw how sad it really was. I did enjoy it, though. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.

It is hard suffering with depression and staying positive about life takes some good thoughts and an appreciation of small mercies. Sometimes we don't know just how lucky we are. As long as I have good health, I am happy Debra. A fine write, love Dolly x x x

Hi Debra! Good to see you back. I like your use of these brief two lines and it makes me think of the many paths and worries of the future that a human mind wrestles with but our faithful furry friends are at ease taking life at it comes. Well, maybe dogs do that better than cats. Cats worry.

Hi, Debra! This is wonderful and in a haiku form I haven't tried. I have written a few of the monoku poems but I do believe this is quite stunning in two lines. Beautifully written and presented my friend. Sending you my best today as always and my very best wishes for the challenge.
Sal xoxo

That is lovely. Are you from England? Pretty sure the pretty sure the picture is. The issue with adding a picture is that it takes away the opportunity for the mind to create its own picture. Therefore seeing a black dog going from side to side means I would never come up with the black dog of depression. Personally I would not change a thing. Just mentioning the Black dog at the end tells me how clever you have been. That is enough for me. I have just realised you have put in one more by step than I read. That does make me think of melancholia, not quite depression but it has changed it to me. Made it a trudge rather than a walk.

    Hello Mark :)
Yes, I'm from England - Yorkshire born and bred.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful review. I'm really happy that you took so much from my few words.
I get what you mean about artwork hindering the mind's own vision, although I came across this particular picture and it inspired something in me so I just had to use it as I'm prone to writer's block!
Truth be told, much of what I write is inspired by pictures. Anyway, I'm babbling! Thanks again, I appreciate it :) Best wishes, Debra

I love this, really do. I love how just two lines can start a train of thought that can go to new places. Before I read this, I was the step by step person. After the read, I became the dog, roaming wildly with great interest.
