Wow! You are the kind of person who is willing to help out where you are needed. I'm am sure you are rare. Not many are so altruistic. I'm amazed that a country a half a world away from the US is like us in so many ways.
We have Nor'easters too along our Atlantic coastline. The area developed years ago as the ideal places to live down in Florida are now being reclaimed by the Gulf of Mexico.

Volunteering is very big in Australia, particularly amongst retirees. Keeps us active and busy. Thank you so much for a great review.

Bless your always caring heart! This world needs a lot less catastrophic events and a lot more Wendys! I remember you doing this before, and I pray for the many victims!

Thank you very much Karenina! To everybody's amazement the weather has settled today, so it might not be too bad after all. The power of prayer, I am sure, for it was a wild night last night! Many thanks.

Hello Wendy,
I'll be praying for the you and the rest of the country. Though some people insist that all the global climate change is the result of fossile fuels, I disagree. When I see what is happening in the world, I suspect that perhaps its a reflection of our spiritual state, and God is trying to get our attention. It doesn't seem to matter where you live in the world anymore, there is going to be something to deal with. We're still having snow, which I'm sick of. In the east there has been torrential rains and today an earthquake where they don't usually occur. California has been inundate with rain this year, and parts of the west are facing a drought. Stay safe my friend. Thank you for being so generous with your time and talents.
Blessings,
Tom

Just wrote a long reply and forgot to save and send. Bah! Silly me.
I believe you are right, and people need to listen to Him. But people also make silly decisions eg releasing water from a dam four times as large as Sydney Harbour (which is itself 500 gigalitres!) into already swollen rivers after torrential rainfall. They let it fill to nearly 97 % capacity, whereas they could keep it at 90% safely, and release the water slowly prior to rain events. The other thing is that decades ago they levelled the land near the convergence of two river systems to make way for housing developments. The natural contours of water courses and ponding areas were gone. That has made the area more flood-prone.
Our area has lots of parks and playgrounds in lower areas for water to run into during heavy rain, and then it gradually dissipates over the next few days through the storm-water drains. So at present our lower areas have a few extra lakes, but homes are not affected.
Fortunately where we live is also further upstream, on quite high ground and we are about at the highest point, not too close to the river, which doesn't break its banks here anyway (or extremely rarely, but not near housing areas). Thank you for this caring review, and also for your prayers and support.

    You're right Wendy,
it runs in my mind that with the series of levys and damns on the Mississippi River, it changed the way the river reacted and caused a lot of flood damage a few years ago. Man should just let nature alone and stop trying to change everything. It always comes back to bite us.

"possibility of trees coming own" should this be (down)
I feel for you Wendy, I am seeing this massive rain advent on the news every day, I admire you and your fellow volunteer's as it is very stressful, not only the workload but the feelings for others that also hurt, very well written and stay safe****kahpot

What a terrible condition to face yet again. I'm with you hoping and praying it will not be as bad as last time and that you and your family with Sunny and all your neighbors will be fine!

Thanks so much Verna. We ourselves will be okay, as our area is high, and we live in the very highest part of it, and about three kilometres from the river, close enough to enjoy picnics but not close enough to experience floods even if it did break its banks. We are considerably further upstream than the areas which go under. Thanks so much for your care, and prayers.

With that title, I'm glad to discover this post was not about Jonathan. My prayers are with you and your husband and the families affected by the flood. May God continue to bless both of you as you share your spirit of caring for others. I hope you are able to return home soon.

I enjoy this thing to your story very much. When I lived in Missouri in the United States, the Missouri river, which was about 23 miles from my home, seem to flood about every seven years and yet people rebuilt went back and farmed, and they said the reason they kept going back is because the soil was so fertile that they made up for the loss that they had during the flood by growing crops that were worth much more money. Patricia.

Thank you for reviewing Patricia. This land used to be farmland, but that has dewparted with the development of housing areas. Removing the natural land contours and flattening it all to make it level for houses was the worst thing they could have done in terms of flooding. But those in 2022 were the "one in a hundred years" floods, far worse than anything in recent history.

Damn. Prayers to all. I live on the coast on an island. Nor'easters are sometimes worse than a hurricane. We get close to hurricane strength winds and downpours for days. Hurricanes are a couple of hours then gone. Neither are fun to be in. I feel your pain. Sounds like your area had an awesome response team. Good luck, Wendy. Gretchen

Yes, we have an excellent team. Despite my immediate preparation and response I am not rostered on till Monday. Fortunately we had a training day recently, as there are quite a few new volunteers, which will help spread the load, if necessary. Thanks so much for your caring reply.
