I'm so sorry you had this happen to you. That is really a shame and there ought to be a way to get your money back. I am confused, though. Did you ever really talk to the real Rebekah? Or was the whole thing, start to finish, a scam?
"No legit Traditional Publishing company will ask you for money" is what I keep hearing, however I had a lovely British company who wanted to
Publish 2 of my picture books and sent me beautifully put together contracts, but wanted me to pay half. and they were legit. Sadly I told them I couldn't.
Goggle traditional Publishers of fiction or whatever genre you're interested in.

Thank you for your compassionate review. There originally was a legal group but it wasn't there for very long and this woman Margarette got caught in it and she got out of there as soon as she could. She realized there was something wrong with that group, that it was scamming and asking for too much money. She got into another group that was legal and is actually taking care of one of my books that was scammed. I do have all of the other manuscripts. All I'm missing is the money and the books. The scam lasted from last November. It was a long long scam no suspicions at all, till the very end when I was supposed to sign a contract that got kind of ghosted. I am finding ways to get some of my money back There are many agencies and helps. So I should get some of my money back.

Even with the legit companies, it is still difficult to make any money.
They put you on Amazon and have you pick key search words. Say I pick Dragon, magic, and wizard. If you search any of those words, a million books pop up. So if a million people are looking for a dragon book this week I might get one sale. Odds are against us in a flooded market.
Anyways, shake this off and be the strong woman that I know you are. You are a survivor and will get past this.

The scammers are out there and they very smart. They will try any angle. For authors, our books are like family and of course we feel they are special and deserve to out there. Personally I don't trust anyone and so far, I've only been scammed by someone claiming I had a computer virus that would erase everything on my harddrive. I lost about About $200. having something removed that wasn't even there. I've had many friend and family member scammed for much more. Thanks for sharing your story.

Thank you for your involved review. I'm sad and angry you've had the same kind of deceptive situation. As you say our books are our babies and we will do anything to try to keep them alive and the scammers know this.

I am another one who almost got scammed. This is a good article that everyone should read and take to heart. As writers we want so badly to be published and there are lots of scammers out there ready to take our money.

I'm diabetic and they caught me just before lunch and worked on convincing me that the FBI was investigating my bank. Three hours later I was a basket case begging my husband to take me to our bank to move our money to the safe account they suggested.

Oh dear they pooped that on me also and they got in my they said they were going to return some money because my tech wasn't doing well so they would fire them and now they're going to give me my money from my contract for my tech The text were wonders. I couldn't figure anything wrong with them but they were going to give me $400. It's a long story but yeah they didn't get it. I caught them before they got into my account. I feel badly that you had to go through that too Oh my gosh how stressful.

That just sucks. I had a writing teacher tell me to always remember one thing. If they ask for money, it's a scam. He said Stephen King, Kurt Vonnagut, and Danielle Steele, never had to shell out money for their books. A company that asks for money, is either a vanity press or a scammer. It's ugly but true. I know this is a hard lesson to learn but I thank you for helping other eager authors navigate this. Gretchen

There are a bunch of these kind of people out there. I had my first two books published and once my title hit Amazon page I started getting this kind of call and emails as well. I just took it for what it was and said it's somebody trying to get more money out of me I'm not willing to do that. I've published the two books that I wanted to publish, and there will be no more.
