Running a bit behind with reviewing at the moment, Jim. Got slugged with COVID a few days ago and it's knocked me about a bit. I feel for this young lass, It must be hard enough being a woman in a predominantly male world even without this kind of harassment and sabotage. I hope she ends up being able to complement Alan in his research work, but introducing a pretty young woman into the workplace might easily upset the developing relationship between Ginny and him. You're setting up an interesting and potentially explosive dynamic.

Sorry to hear about the Covid, Tony. Hope you're healing well now.
I thought it would add a nice twist to include Abby in this story. She has appeared to some degree in all of my novels so far and has always been a favorite character of mine. I didn't plan this when I originally conceived of this story, but the timing of events and what happened to Abby in another novel just worked well to bring her into this one. We'll see how she and Ginnie get along in a future chapter.

I've just read and commented on the chapter that comes after this, so I am writing this review for something I should have read first. But never mind, I'm following along as best as I can. Ulla:)))

No worries. This particular chapter was part of a novel I don't think you read, but the timing and the subject matter seemed to fit in with this story, plus Abby has always been one of my favorite characters, and I've managed to work her into all of my novels so far.

Chad is a class A creep and you obviously wrote his character and interventions up well because my blood is still boiling that Abby had to put up with that, though I'm sure in reality it still happens today.A good interlude, Jim,
cheers,

Thanks, Valda. It's a shame there were so many chauvinists in the engineering field at that time. Hopefully, it's much less prevalent today. Although it's a shame what happened, that was one incident in the story, in which she was one of two main characters, to help strengthen Abby's backbone and enable her to grow as a character.
Abby has appeared in all of my novels so far in some capacity and has always been a favorite character of mine.

I recognized Abby by the third paragraph. So, this is what she had to put up with when studying engineering. Men do have a bad habit of wanting to keep women out of their male-dominated fields. I wonder if the class would have laughed if Abby had messed with one of their male projects.

I think there are a lot more women in engineering these days, but in the '80s it was very much male-dominated, and the women put up with a lot of crap. I'm guessing the men wouldn't have thought it so funny had a woman messed with one of their projects.

This is interlude does provide needed information about nature of the world Alan inhabits. Now, we know he is in a shared universe that has time travel, ghosts, and an alternate history. That means anything is possible, even Alan's invention in the 80s.

By cracky, you've got it, Lance! I'm impressed, because no one else picked up on this.

I hadn't read your previous two novels featuring Abby St. Claire, so this was a refreshing and surprising introduction.
After many years of watching movies together, my husband now forbids me from telling him what I think is going to happen. So now that I know Abby is Callie's cousin, I'm not going to 2nd guess the roll she might play in the story. I'll just wait and see.

Yeah, I couldn't resist bringing her back, if only for a cameo role in this story. But there will be a reason for it as we will find out.
My wife also likes to speculate about what will happen in a show we are watching, but I don't mind it. She is very often right.

Jim,
this was outstanding. I love the way you took a person who hasn't even been in the backround of this story, and woven her into the plot. I never would have thought of that.
One has to wonder how Chad even made it into that class. They guy's a world class buffoon. I suspect that if Abby is at all vindictive, he'd better watch his back.
For some reason, this story reminds me of an incident when I was in Radarman "A" school back in Great Lakes Illinois. It's not the least bit related, but it reminded me of this nonetheless. We were sitting at long desks, about three rows per class. One of the fellows in my row taped a Zippo lighter to a yard stick, lit it, an proceeded to hold it under the butt of the fellow in front of him for a few seconds before retrieving it. By the time the guy in front felt the pain, the perpetrator had already removed the lighter. Like I said, I don't know why I thought of that, but I did. This was who we had protecting our country. God help us.
Have a blessed day.

Now that would have been fun to see! I'll bet there was a lot of cracking up by those in your row. I can see the parallel.
Thanks so much for your great rating and for sharing that story, Tom. Abby has appeared in all of my novels so far, seeing as how she is my favorite character. Just a cameo role in this one, but she will have an impact on Alan and his project when all is said and done.

I like the way you connect your stories and characters as you inter-weave the characters, although you took me by surprise with bringing Abby connected to Callie. Abby is a great character, but I'd like to see her get her own back on Chad. Beautifully written, blessings Roy

I have somehow managed to fit my favorite character into all my stories so far, and this was no exception. This was always my long term plan when I though up the character of Callie. Now I just have to connect her to what Alan is doing.

Very clever Jim

This is another excellent chapter. It adds a pleasant addition to this story. My oldest daughter is an engineer who works in a mostly male job. She learned not to cry and not to be intimidated when they yelled. I do not see any room for improvement. Have a blessed day.

Good for your daughter. That was something it took a while for Abby to learn to do in the story she was in, which was largely about her growth as a person. She has always been a favorite character of mine, and I wanted to bring her in as a cameo role in this story.

Oh that Chad! I hope Abby got her revenge. I'm sure you wrote that in the previous book. I'm glad you can connect this book to that one while showing us women can be great at engineering and sciences!

Abby has actually appeared in every one of my novels so far in differing capacities. You might say she is my favorite character. Perhaps it was a bit of a stretch to bring her into this story, but where there's a will, there's a way. It won't be a huge role, but she will help provide Alan with the support he will need to get this invention off the ground.

That's great! Yes, I remember her in your Golf Novel.
