Classic and romantic creation with words that depict the love, strength it creates and the protection it holds in one's heart! Your use of the elements as the metaphor of the "storms" of life emulate the mood and your rhyming within and at the end takes the reader to an appreciation of silk and honey! Love this

Many thanks, Ionna, for this fine review and the extra star. I suspect the judges in this contest are looking for a 'classic' sonnet, so that's what I gave them.

A fine example of the Sonnet form with wonderful imagery to express the strength of love against all odds.

As I've often said, when it comes to poetry, I wouldn't know a sonnet from sorbet. But even a novice can appreciate your outstanding poem. Congratulations on your much deserved contest win. Thanks for sharing. I wish I had a six.

    Thanks, again.

Knowing poetic forms etc is not essential as long as you can make some sense of what it means and appreciate that.

Perhaps I could create a form called a Sorbet!

A most worthy winner! I'm sorry to be reviewing it late, and without six stars in hand.

If Shakespeare were inclined to copy of his classmates paper I do believe he'd be sorely tempted to steal this one!

It's hard to know about the real Shakespeare, but by all accounts the 'upstart crow' would be far to sure of his own genius to think that anyone else could do better than he!

    Nice compliment, though! Thank you.

I was taking a little liberty as to his ego, to make a point.

Outstanding Sonnet. Congratulations on your first place finish. Very well deserved. Loved the scattered alliterations. The fortress metaphor for a hardened heart was compelling. Excellent rhyme and meter. The resolution of fear and anger in the couplet was touching. Bravo.

Hi Steve,
This is a wonderful sonnet in praise of a strong lasting love. It is built on work through many storms which were battled together through faith.
Faith always keeps things together when other supposedly strong relationships fall apart around you.
Congrats on winning the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Enjoy your weekend
Joan

Your use of metaphor is amazing, creating an image and great feeling. This is a beautiful sonnet, that rhymes well and is a pleasure to read. A great entry for the contest.

Haven't seen you before. The picture is just glorious and certainly puts one in the mood. But, you forgot to mention in your author's notes where it came from. You wrote a very nice poetic story. Karen

Hi, Karen, and a belated welcome to FanStory. I haven't seen you here before either, most probably because I haven't been around a lot over the last year. In previous years you would have seen me here every day, but life...
You are quite right, I should have mentioned the artwork's provenance - it was one I created using AI with the help of a site called Night Cafe. I've been experimenting with AI images lately to create images to accompany YouTube videos of a few of my poems.

This was an elegantly written sonnet, Steve, with the solid fortress being a great metaphor for your love, and the storms of nature being another great metaphor for the forces of temptation and other things that can batter a love.

Lovely rhyming and meter and a beautiful picture to exemplify the solidity of your love make this an outstanding work. - Jim

Hi, Jim. Many thanks for this great review. Yes, I felt the metaphors worked well - maybe the reason the judges liked this too.
