It's actually nice to run across someone who isn't obsessed with members of the opposite sex, which is exceptionally rare in this day and age. And I agree, cowboy Tom has a lot of advantages over real cowboys. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

Your story is compelling and maintains interest from beginning to end. You were fortunate to have an uncle and friends looking out for what they thought was best for you. The picture of the cowboy statue looks like a real person. You sound like you have always been your own person, and you know what you want, and writing about your decisions can be inspiring to others. I wish you the best in the contest.

Suggestion: When writing dialogue, each person who speaks gets a new separate line with a space in between, so the reader can SEE the speaker has changed. Here is an example taken from your story.

"Thanks, but I'm perfectly happy with my cowboy."

"Wait, you're seeing someone?" she squeaked.

"yeah, my Uncle introduced us." I continued.

"Did you know she was seeing someone?" she asked the other girls out front. The waitress who'd been by my side when my Uncle brought Tom in spoke up.

"Yeah, he's cute too. Looks like Burt Reynolds."

This is a sweet tribute to your uncle, who understood that you are a grown-up and can make your own decisions in the love life department! It's a funny thing how other people always want to set up single people, like they must be miserable. But in reality, it's the couples that I hear being miserable more often! This is a great story, with your cowboy statue, who does look a little like a young Burt Reynolds, being the thread that tied it together.

My only suggestion for possible correction, would be you should not be capitalizing diner, rodeo, or uncle unless it's attached to his name.

Thank you for sharing the story. And best of luck in the contest! Julie.

This us a great story, I now know that desperation never makes one happy, one has to be happy wherever they are, otherwise what is life all about, other people's standards? But to be content where on is, forever relationships can be fraught with forever problems, unhappily married is much worse than happily single, well done, blessings Roy

How nice to have had such an understanding and supportive uncle. Sorry for your loss.
You did a great job of showing how some people love to meddle, and also how workmates can become like family.
Well done!

Your story is heartwarming and beautifully illustrates the love and understanding shared between a family. The way your Uncle playfully teased you about finding a cowboy and eventually presented you with Cowboy Tom was great. It was so funny and and touching. I thought your story did a wonderful job in sharing your memories of what sounds like a wonderful person. Great job.

A gorgeous story and one I can truly understand. Friends, even caring ones sure can overstep the mark at times. And often, even though their intentions may be noble you really want to tell them to mind their own business. But they seldom listen. Guess that's why they are usually called FAMILY.
