Amanda, this poem is so gorgeously written. Your mention of the reminder that we are all the same reminds me of Richard Bach's book, 'One.' You play with words in such a way that each line could be the title of a new poem. I like the fact that the poem begins and ends with your lady with the small dog and feel like I want to know what would bring her joy and contentment. Could it be the idea of another life, or might it just be finding what she desires in this one? The same could be attributed to many, which comes back to the aptness of your title.

This poem reminds me of what it's like to people-watch. Some people just make observations while others create a backstory for strangers, then compare themselves to them. Sometimes we learn more about ourselves than the strangers in the process. And I can't forget to mention the beautiful language, either. Good luck in the contest!

I thought this was well written. Your poem does a wonderful job of sharing the image of the lady with the small dog outside. I like how you go back to that at the end sharing that we all may be in the same position at some point in our life. Very creative.

It's so true that we tend to compare our lives with others. We think that maybe the grass is greener, when in fact we are all the same. I like when you say "my being was my undoing." It's something we don't ever really think about. Nice poem!

That was crazy. The ending capped everything off so well. It all comes back around but this time you're the subject and not the interpreter. Love that and thank you for this
