This is a well written story that tells a sad tale of a man who felt he had lost two major things that were important to him. His wife didn't understand. He therefore took his own life. His friend Tom will probably feel guilty forever, for encouraging him to not go to church. Jack Daniels is expected to ease the pain and memories. Great story.

It would be a sobering moment to have a friend commit suicide but apparerntly Tom needed to drink to handle it. I wonder if Tom was concernted that maybe since Jason wasn't interested in church he was imaging him somewhere other than in Heaven.

And that Tom was partly responsible for steering him away

This is a great story, Wayne. Sorry I don't have any 6s left. So authentic and real... and sad! Unfortunately, we're not privy to the inner thoughts and despair of people, and it's often difficult to know what they may be going through. It's so easy to have guilt and wonder if there's anything you might have been able to do or say or if somehow you might have contributed to their misery, as Tom appears to think he did with Jason.

This was powerfully and movingly told. I hope it wasn't autobiographical. - Jim

    Fiction.
And thank you. (I enjoy the thought of the six nearly as much as receiving them. Thank you.) smiley face here
I had the thought of 'no dead unbelievers' and invented a story to fit.

Hi Wayne,
Written in your usual compelling style, you had me right beside the men mourning the suicide death of their friend. The part at the end sounds like Tom had a bit of a guilty conscience.

The video you used to accompany the story is one of my favorites.

Great writing,
Rhonda

Yes. Tom always led him away from all things spiritual or religious.

"Ain't no dead unbelievers." I haven't ever heard a more truthful line than that. I started reading this and then about halfway through, I stopped and scrolled back to the top to make sure it was fiction. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

Of all the reviewers, you are the only one to get it. One other was close, but not like you did. Thank you.

I had to read this twice. It was definitely captivating, though I wouldn't call it entertaining exactly. I did like it, though. Thank you for sharing once more, and best wishes to you, as always.

I don't get that last bit. Otherwise a good story. Why was he steering Jason bad every chance he could? I picked up no thread about this in the story. Have a good weekend. Karen

Tom was selfish. And a non-believer.

This is a good story but seems to have a disconnect. If Jason was a student manager, how did he have so many concussions that is would lead him to suicide? Junior and Tom were the football players.

Interesting, and very different. No dead unbelievers - have they now bowed the knee and acknowledged Jesus as Lord, despite previously not believing in oraccepting him, or are they still dead, but only the believers are with Jesus? This story promises to be interesting.

    Thank you.
You are the first of 25 views and 10 reviews to comment on the 'no dead unbelievers'. There is no hidden meaning, simply that when we die we learn that there is a God that everyone will bow to, and that Jesus is Lord, whether atheist or some false religion.
This was a stand-alone post. I used characters, story, and dialogue just as vehicles.

Ah, so it's not going to be a series. I'm looking forward to the other one starting up, and It would be hard to do two simultaneously, I am sure.

Wow, this is a very different story - is this set in today's time period? I agree that in Heaven all our questions will be answered and we will finally know the Truth.

    Yes, present.
I was looking for reviewers to hone in on 'no dead unbelievers'. No matter atheism or any false religion that denies Christ: once dead, there are no unbelievers among them.
Thank you for your great review.
