Such a senseless act of violence for the satisfaction of a sexual predator, a policeman sworn to uphold, serve, and protect. Regard for human life seemingly declines in all realms of society. Who can we trust!
Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much, Ric, for taking the time to review and getting so little in return. The case still makes my blood boil and all I know is he's going to have a hard time of it inside as a cop unless he's in solitary! Thanks again. I'm very grateful. Debbie

Outstanding piece of work, Debbie. The combination of poetic excellence and bitingly relevant, highly emotive, social commentary is rarely achieved to such effect. Hearty congratulations, Terry.

Truly a tragic story of betrayed trust. It still hard to conceive such things despite being a Sexual Assault Victims Advocate for the Department of Defense while I served in the U.S. Navy. It's a sensitive topic for me. Thank you for your exquisite writing in bringing it to life in my mind. And with that ...I bid adieu.

Thank you so much for this. It means a lot to me that it resonates with you so much, given your own background. I'm really grateful for the time you've taken here and your kind support. Take care Debbie

I read this a day or two ago but didn't get round to reviewing. You've achieved a coherent retelling of this tragedy in verse with skilful enjambment and punctuation. The metre works well to give a ballad-like feel and the rhyming is consistent and unobtrusive. All in all, a fine composition. Congratulations.

Informative, eye-opening and terrifying. If one can no longer trust policing authorities, who can they trust? Debi, this truly is a sensational write. I hope this bastard rots in prison where he deserves to be. And hopefully some of the inmates may learn of his deeds and then impose their own degree of punishment.

This poem pays tribute to a lovely young lady named Sarah Everard. The rhythm/meter and rhyme are very good. Thank you for the author notes, since crime stories across the sea are rarely published in our local newspaper. I think you did a good job overall.

The author's words were filled with
grief, sadness, violent acts and sadness. I found this poem to be very well written, detailed, and heart breaking. Thank you for the author's notes - how emotional it all is. Debbie, sending my sincere
thoughts and prayers...Maria

Wow.. this poem is incredible. It broaches an incredibly heavy topic while flowing so well it makes it almost pleasant (I'm not sure if that's the right word) to read. The rhymes are clever and well thought out, and I'm glad you've used your talent to address this issue.

Oh, Debbie, I do remember that case. It was reported everywhere. If we can't trust the law enforcement ie the police, who the heck can we believe? Your poem is so wonderfully written. Ulla xcx

Thank you so much, Ulla, for your kind and thoughtful review! It was the mother's words that inspired me. Such dignity! How do parents ever get over this kind of evil? Take care, Debbie xo
Comment from John Ciarmello
Oh my, Debbie!
This sort of event is always sad to hear, and what makes it worse is the loss of trust that occurs throughout what should be a trusted profession. How does one ever not wonder when looking at an officer whether he's on the up and up or is he a rapist and a murderer.
We say time heals all. I believe, in this case, that will never be true.
Best, JohnC

Thank you so much, John, for this very kind review that I'm honoured to receive! It's a mess isn't it when we lose faith in our protectors and they have to issue advice, after this crime, about how to respond in the event of being stopped by the police! Take care Debbie
