What happened to Tina is what happens to teens when they engage in adult behavior but don't know how to make adult decisions. I'm glad the true story has been revealed to Alan. But, there are a lot of possibilities that can happen now. I look forward to reading what you have in store for us next.

Absolutely right. Their brains, along with their morals, are not fully developed by age 16, and their judgments are often self-centered and horrible.

Yes, indeed, lots of possibilities. Not over yet.

You left the story in a good place, Jim. We will all be champing at the bit to find out what happens next. I'm afraid I don't have much faith in the mother or the head; how embarrassing for him to have to go back on his decision. Life wasn't meant to be easy (sigh!).

You're right, it never is. But then again, you wouldn't want to read a story where everything was easy.

I can see trouble coming from the nurse that overheard only part of the conversation. Another good chapter Jim and a hard lesson for Tina to learn from.
Well done Jim.
cheers,
valda

You see things the way I do, Valda. Trouble coming on the one front, no further trouble on the other.

Hello Jim,
this was an interesting turn of events. I'm glad that Tina is repenting and finally getting a reality check. What if Alan hadn't been close by? I'm a bit troubled that Ginnie didn't spend a little more time with Alan or that he didn't go into a little more detail with her about why he was there. As it stands now, her life is already stressful and the man she might be developing a relationship with has a few unsettling issues that are out of the ordinary. It's a lot for her to take in, but I hope she listens to her heart and that Alan with be forthright and explain in detail what is going on. The truth, while not always easy to handle, is no doubt the best way. Good chapter my friend.
Have a blessed day.
Tom

Thanks, Tom. Their faith in each other will be sorely tested by this turn of events. Let's see how strong it really is, and if there's enough there to go forward.

This is another excellent chapter. You did a great job with the conversation between Mr. Phelps and Tina. I do not see any need for improvement. Haven a blessed day.

Thanks, Lee. I think Tina has finally seen the error of her ways, and hopefully she will tell her mother the truth about it too.

Well, I sense somehow Tina will retract clearing the wrongful claim and somehow say Mr Phelps caused her injuries, but I'll leave that for your next chapter to see.

You're a glass half empty kind of person, aren't you? We shall see soon enough the way it's going to go.

Nah. I have a full glass, but keep in mind my glass holds only 8 ounces, whereas most use either 12 or 16-ounce containers. Do I seem to be a negative influencer?

You're not the only one thinking that way.

What a fantastic episode Jim, you're a darn good writer, and one of the wonderful things about writing, is one can create their own gospel story, and this is the only way David Phelps could be redeemed, but the dirty minded public, well done, great story, blessings Roy

That's always been my belief too, Roy, that people will always be suspicious of him unless there is a full retraction by Tina. If they don't believe him after that, then it's on them. There's just no convincing closed-minded people.

Was it her phone or the hospital phone? I was thinking that Alan really should be recording this confession but that might take away from the moment of connecting with this kid. Hopefully, the passing nurse won't make up some story hearing only partial bits of her story like the "our baby" part. Ginnie could get wind of a completely different story! I think the right thing for Tina to do is to get on social media and let everyone know the whole story since the rumor mill has ruined Alan's reputation.

These are great thoughts--for a modern day story--but this predates the personal cell phone and social media by 10-15 years. This is 1986 before those things.

Great suspicions you've got. Several ways the story can go from here.

Yeah, I got carried away and forgot the time period of the story! 😊

Another great chapter, Jim. The emotion comes through strongly and the dialogue is pitch perfect. You've left enough options open to keep us thirsting for more.

Thanks so much, Tony, for your kind words and the 6 stars too. That's very encouraging. This event needs some closure, and we will get it, eventually.

I suppose Ginnie was the nurse who heard Tina say "our baby". So the problems are going to start all over again. Alan can't win for losing. People seem to take an odd phrase and turn it into a disaster so thoughtlessly.

Some good speculating you're doing, Carol. This part of the story will wrap up in a few chapters, and we'll see how much the gods of misfortune are against poor Alan.
