Ciao mystery poet, you now have 4 votes!

Sissie had had a second chance and she brought much love and joy into your life.

Yes, we all wish our beloved pets would just pass away slowly in their sleep.

I have been there more than once and it doesn't get any easier.

After the first injection , I hold my boy in my arms so he can feel and smell I am near.

After I cut a few whiskers and some fur for keeps..I then cut a long piece of my hair and place it between his front paws which I crisscross.

I wrap him up in a soft blanket and take him home to bury.

Our pets trust us and know how much we love them ..they know that we will make them feel better.

The first weeks is hard but over time the void they left is filled with those happy moments shared through the years.

I'm sure that we will meet our furry babies in heaven.

Thank you for your support. You are right - I am 75 and have had many dogs and cats over my life and it does not get any easier! But, life without them would be more lonely and void of their love and my laughter. God bless you for caring.

This is a very powerful piece. I have had to put down a dog I loved so very much, Papa. He was suffering and had fluid in his lungs. My oldest now is 15 and starting to have health issues and I fear the same fate may become him. It is so hard.

Mia, thanks for your review in support. I am 75. I have had pets since I was 3, except for college years, Navy years and New York City years. I have put down several, dogs and cats. It does not get any easier! But, I could not have a happy life without them. So, is that not life? We love, we suffer. But, on balance, we win...

Sissie is very precious. We had a cat that is 80 years old in cat years and one that is 67 in cat years. We have had them since they were kittens. We just keep loving our pets until the Lord calls them home. I believe we will see them again also. This is a very well written poem for the Sad poem contest. I wish you well in the contest. Lots of love to Sissie! Blessings, Teri

Yes, I love cats, too! My youngest daughter adopted two sisters from a neighbor and named them Hugs and Kisses. They both died between 19 and 20. That daughter had finished college! As I write this, Miss Sisssie is barking at me in our room. My wife kicked me out as Sissie has special needs. It's like having two wives! Anyway, thanks for your warm empathy. We who love and need these critters pay a price, but I would not change. And, people like you and me find peace in our knowing that creatures who love will meet again where God is Love. With loving notes like yours, I have won what matters most. Thanks

There always comes that day with pets. It's never easy, and yet we do it over and over again. Sissy was very lucky, being adopted and having two loving homes right up until the end. I feel your pain.

You know, when I think about it, I could write much of the exact same poem about my wife - only I would have to use bolder and larger type. Thanks for your wonderful review. I am looking forward to many dogs and cats waiting at that gate. Should I be buried with several boxes of treats?

Totally a sad poem and a hard decision that I was forced to face this year too. I like the reconciliation at the end:"ill she know why, tears in my voice,
That she's suffering? I have no choice!
I'll see her again, waiting at God's gate,
For her love, and demands, I can't wait."
