I had a cat that did that. "Thunder" brought m e all kinds of things. When I had to move I was going to live with my aunt and uncle for a while, and could not have my cat, so I gave her to a farmer. He said she was the best rat and mouse catcher he had ever had.
Your poem says everything ina nutshell. Good writing.

Ciao mystery poet, you now have 2 votes!

My Paco had the same habit to bring unwanted gifts.

He was the only one that wondered off the property and he would come back mostly in spring with chicks.

I felt bad because he wasn't even hungry ..

Sadly it's in their DNA , the hunter instinct just like their cousins ( lions , cheetah, leopards etc)

and they want to show their love towards us.

My cats would do that all they would find their way onto the garage roof and get birds and brought them home to me. Nature is nature. Thanks for the review.

UGHHHH!! The things my nightmares are made of for SURE!! You captured the essence of the cat heart perfectly!

One Thanksgiving, our tabby was making weird noises at the back door. When my mother opened it, he was there with a BIG, KICKING RAT in his mouth!! My mother screeched and slammed it closed right in his face.

Hours later, after we'd finished our feast, we heard the cat at the back door again. This time, when my mother opened it, the rat in our cat's mouth had no head!! "Oh, am I supposed to put your leftovers in the fridge?" my mother asked and, once again, slammed the door in the poor cat's face.

Anyway, thanks for the cute (well, you know, sort of...) entry, replete with pic that evoked this fifty-year-old memory for me. I hope you do well in the contest. xo

Thanks so much for sharing that story. That?s the way animals show their love, they hunt for you and bring back to share their food. Thanks for the review.

That's right! We were mighty ungrateful to our poor cat that day! Definitely NOT very "Thanksgiving Spirit" of us!

Interesting use of the 5-7-5 syllable allotment to describe and share your cat's attempt to train a sister cat.? The photograph is also a great accompaniment to your poem. Good Luck in this contest with your entry

The middle line seems like it is missing a word, but then it would have too many words for the contest, perhaps "Taught sister to do the same", love Dolly x x x
