Hello Debbie,
wow, you really did your research. She had a great voice, but her style never appealed to me. It was tragic that she passed so soon. Thanks so much for sharing this gal.
Have a blessed day.

Very nice image and presentation, Debbie. Whitney had an incredible voice. Who can forget her sitting in a chair on stage singing "I will always love you." It still gives me chills. She did a great job in "The Bodyguard" with Kevin Costner. I wonder what he thought about acting with her?
It was a shame her life changed with her involvement with Bobby Brown. It ended up being her downfall as well as her daughters.
I like your verse with "didn't we almost have it all?" Thanks for sharing everything about this iconic singer.

Thank you so much, Pam, for this kind and thoughtful review! I loved that movie too and have always wondered about whether there was any real-life frisson between them. I've read that he initially considered Princess Diana for the role but I think that would have been a big ask! It's a funny thing that, when I did Tina (despite her background), I felt really happy. But Whitney, with all her privileges and success, got me down and I worried that it would sound too negative. As ever, I appreciate your thoughts. Debbie

You are very welcome, Debbie. That is an interesting tidbit about Princess Diana for the role. I would have been a really big ask! Your poem didn't sound negative at all. I think most people know the general idea of her problems. It was a shame for her daughter and her.

This a beautiful tribute poem to Whitney, who I feel was by my side, throughout the most wonderful memories as I was becoming a teen and young adult. Her every song is like part of my life's soundtrack and I can remember where I was each time a new song would come out. She was a beauty inside and out and she had so much to offer our world. Too often the sweetest and gentlest of us all, get caught up above their heads, trying to accommodate or help others. She was a heart of pure gold. Extraordinary writing, Debbie!
Best wishes,
Alex

You did a wonderful job with this excellently written poetry that spotlights Whitney. Her story breaks my heart and I so wish the end of her life had not been burdened with addiction. She was so talented. This is very well researched which adds to it and gives us a wider understanding of her range and accomplishments. Great job with this.

A beautiful tribute to one of the greats. I love Whitney's music and have some on my playlist today.
Very creative to place some of her song titles throughout your poem and thank you for your notes that put it all in perspective.

Loved the creative way you've penned so many song titles into this poem. Then your author notes add even more to the work. Finally, we're left with the tragic reality of this gifted artist's life. All in all it truly is a brilliant write. And I forgot to add, so informative. Thank you.

Thank you for this biographical poem about Whitney Houston. You have taught me so much. I realized that I stopped listening to pop music after high school. She certainly had a beautiful voice and had wonderful mentors.
I appreciated your notes but have questions:
the couple forged a strong bond together and were very similar in temperament (who was the couple? Not the rapper and Whitney. Whitney and her daughter?)
Her own mimicked it when she was found (who? Her own ??)

Thank you so much, Helen! No the notes related to the addendum and the relationship between Whitney and her daughter. Her 'own' is referring to her death. I'll go back and make that clearer. Thanks again Debbie

I think the world mourns the loss of this beautiful songstress -- I know I do. What a tragedy! And to then be followed by her daughter... *sigh* Your poem is outstanding, my friend -- flawless in every way.

It is heartbreaking that those with big gifts are rarely given the ability to cope with the onslaught of what comes with it. You write these incredibly well. Still waiting on Shirley! nag nag nag. :-)

Thanks so much, Karen, for your kind review! I'm not sure about Shirley MacLean but I may just take a look. I never mind suggestions though (never nagging). Take care Debbie

Once again, you've mastered biography in verse. This is beautiful and succinct. I love how you sum up a person's whole history with style and song titles.
