I quite enjoyed this, particularly Woodstock giving a kick shot at Snoopy.
It is kind of odd how the wrong person can get banned.
Excellent op-ed and hopefully taken in the good spirit with which you have written it.

Nice article, Dawn. I learned early on that there were shenanigans going on. I was mostly interested in meeting people like yourself, so I just let it slide.

I am sorry to hear this is happening to you. I agree there are improvements that need to be made. I didn't even know it was possible to change the dates. If I have posted one thing on the site, I do always get the message about waiting about posting again. I just keep on trying until it finally lets me put on a second one. I also get messages saying a comment was already posted by you, when I know it was not. These are kinks in the system an I try to work around them. I never vote for a work that is supposed to be nameless if it it is obvious who wrote it.

I read your essay here with interest. I do not believe that I personally have encountered cheating or I am too stupid to realize it has occurred. I am sorry that you have had such experiences. I do find it a little difficult to believe I have achieved only two second place wins (member voted, both) in all these years. Okay, so I'm rather conceited to think I write better than that. I absolutely cannot vote for myself, though, as some members do (and confessed to doing). You are a great writer and should never have to battle for what is fair and right. Evi

I have been a member since 2008. Yes, this system is far from perfect. I don't understand why nothing is ever done, but it's not. I just post my novels hoping to get help editing. I stay away from the rest.
And I am certainly able to read a clock - midnight is midnight on my laptop, my wall, and the site's system. (It may be midnight at your place, but with the time zones midnight is different depending on where this whole thing originates.)

I have a difficult time moving up the ranks probably due to my writings not giving enough cents. I was unaware of the cheating going on and accounts being tampered with. Your article here is interesting and makes the reader think.

This was an informative post. I think you have definitely learned a lot more about how things work on this site than I have. So, I agree the rating system here apparently makes a huge difference on how often someone wins, but it doesn't necessarily make them a winner in external contests. You pointed out such a real possibility, that someone could lower a rating rather than raise a rating in an attempt to influence contest outcomes. You are so brilliant to notice that! Someone (can't even remember who, I just knew it was someone younger than I was, and maybe it was the same person you referred to above) who was in charge of some kind of classes ten years ago blocked me from the get-go because I gave her a four-star rating on a single short poem, before I learned the custom here was to do five star ratings except perhaps in the case of something that was written by a manic cat trampling a keyboard. If it ever stops being fun to post on here, I will give it up, (smile).

I'm so sorry. I have been around all these mountains too. The defending my work has gotten me in trouble several times although the reviewers were abominable. No kidding. I have had some really awful experiences on here and have remained in here, writing and participating in good faith. Needless to say, my mute box is full, always. I rotate them. I have to because there's more than six, unfortunately. Contests, not that much anymore. Here and there. I think the blind contests are a joke because they're not really blind unless you're new and we don't recognize your style yet. The older writers are fairly easily to recognize.
Anyway, I'm not sure what the answer is except that I have formed some really sweet relationships here and we pray together and support each other's work and stay in touch. My copy editor is on here although he's taking a break right now. Hopefully he will return soon.
I miss many of my older fan friends and it's sad because most left because of the reviews they received and the constant blowbacks, put downs and such. It's really sad to watch the talented walk away.
Praying for you, sweetie. You have much to offer and to teach us here. I hope you'll stay for a long time.

I, too, have been told I've posted two on that day when I know darn well I didn't. That's the least of my worries. I haven't had any trouble with anyone tampering with my account, and I must say when I've gone to Tom about something, for the most part, he's been very polite and helpful. I don't think we get the real Tom every time we contact him. I think it depends on who you get as "Tom."
