God has blessed each one of us with a special talent/gift. We should utilize that talent/gift the best we can. Thank you for sharing this contest entry with us. Good luck with the contest.

This Senryu or 5-7-5 poem is also exploring words with more than on used. Not only the word gift, although I never knew it had to do with running, but also the the word present. Read is the one that drive me nuts. Is a present tense verb or past tense?

Again, I learned something about Australia I hadn't known before. Hope my small cranium can remember all these important facts! In my wheelchair, I may not be ab le to run fastest of all, but I will try to keep up with FS writers with my meager offerings.

I'm glad you told us about the race, Stawell Gift. To me it made the last line make sense for me,

I liked your present vs present line as the English language can be a challenge at times.

Great entry...
John

A wonderfully fun offering for the 5-7-5 prompt. I enjoyed play on words and then the encouragement to use the talent God gives us and run with it :). A good one for this contest! Good luck.

What a unique intriguing 5:7/5 contest entry!

In your notes, what does the word 'richest' mean? Like famous? Just curious it threw me off.

Great informational piece!

Richest as in the largest cash prize. :) It is also probably the most famous.

Clever word play with the English language. I think the last line is a challenge to use the gifts we have to the best of our ability, a logical extension of the second line. Best wishes for the contest.

Nice picture with great colors that you chose in the backdrop too. The last two lines of your poem I think are great I wasn't sure what the first line meant in correlation with the other two maybe it's a present and in the box they're all our talents I'm not sure what you need however it doesn't take away from the obvious gift of writing that you have having said that I hope that you're having a great evening and that your new year is great and I wish you best of luck!

Thank you so much, Lea! It was really a play on words - to preSENT (hand over) a PREsent (a gift), and that two words that look identical on paper are actually pronounced differently. :)
