This reminds me a bit of Dr. Seuss style with the quick rhymes. You relate humanity to animals here very well when it comes to gathering food for oneself or even broader just looking out for one's own well being and not depending on others unnecessarily when everything you need has already been provided. But there is also empathy that as we get older, we sometimes lose our drive and will. I can see different themes here about autonomy, self preservation, etc

You wrote this poem while looking at life through the lens of a seagull, and its struggles to find food in the sea, which is a unique perspective. This why we should fish for them, or in this case, feed them bread, as we don't understand their problems and difficulties in life.
