Oh, how we can all relate to your honest and self reflective poem, Jimi, at whatever spot we land in. Like you, I have avoided many of the pitfalls of aging by living a pretty modest life. Your poem is an inspiration to accept what we cannot change, embracing the good, but to be careful not to slip into inactivity and self indulgence.

Thanks for sharing,
Rhonda

Rhonda, once again a big appreciative thank you!

It is apparent to me that you read a Fanstorian?s work with the greatest of intention.

I am truly honored and appreciative.

    Thank you!

That is certainly my intention, Jimi. I don?t write as many reviews as some on here, because if I speed up numbers, I slow down comprehension, which becomes a chore rather than the pleasure I desire.

    Thanks for your insight,
    Rhonda

Hello again.

Yep, time marches on and so do we, but differently. I think the time of wisdom is upon us, no matter the depth of that wisdom. It's okay to be past prime and relax into life whatever we want it to be. I read earlier all the things you are involved with and it makes for a busy life, but doing things for yourself, a little self comfort is okay as well. You've lived, you deserve it! I've always loved the honesty in your work and this one is no exception. Have you noticed how Botox friends always look a little stretched out? It's nice to see your expression of life again. Take care and again Merry Christmas! xx Deborah

Jimi, Jimi! Welcome home. Tis nice to see you writing once more (I sent you a Christmas e-card) Never fear for age is dear. Not for falling boobs and skin like a turkey. Gobble, gobble. We are in the winter of our year. Me? I'm 78 and still my head works, nothing else does. We remember the old days and memories loom large. Hell, we have more living to do. You have always been a mover and shaker. Head up, girl! K XX

I love your hair color. I have a 'crim' cut because of the heat. Did you enjoy Christmas? Love you, Kace.

Hi Jimi,
As I read you free verse poem, I had the vision of the Queen in "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs". She had to have the compliment of a magic mirror to go on with her life. It set her on a pedestal for the day... because next morning she'd be asking the mirror once again. I'm sure the mirror lied most of the time, (self-preservation). But it couldn't lie once Snow White came on the scene. She was the fairest in the land, and the queen was vexed. Too bad the Queen didn't have a little dignity, and find ways to supplement her looks, to inch ever closer to Snow. A strong second place should have been good enough for her.
You have to play the cards you're dealt. There's more to beauty than what's on the outside. You can be beautiful on the inside. That's much more important. Beauty is only skin-deep. And so many women miss the boat... the answer is in drinking water, exercising, and Noxzema!
Your talent is still there, Jimi. You've got to return to the marble floors of Fanstory... that click-click-click of your high heels on a polished floor!
Here are the lines that stand out to me,
"Overly processed hair of cowboy copper and Marilyn blonde"
and,
"My friends, aged Barbies of the twenty-first century"
and,
"Sun bunnies and cowgirl wranglers in their youth
Aged crepey skin far more damaged than they should be
Deep crevices of life etched into their habitual expression
Double chins and wirey steel hair"
and,
"Xanax and Zoloft, marvelous meds
to ease their pain and disappointments
with this ever evolvong carousel called life"
and,
"Surprisingly to me,
I celebrate seventy without the vanity
void of the cumbersome need to appear youthful"

My youngest son took my picture recently, and the app ages it by X number of years. I look pretty weathered in it, and you'll see it soon because I changed the image in my portfolio to this future old writer. I prefer to laugh at myself when I look in the mirror.

A few spots to look over,

"Double chins and (wirey) steel hair" ... (wiry)

"with this (ever evolvong) carousel called life" ... (ever-evolving)

"The mirror I was once obseessed with" ... (obsessed)

"furrowed brows(.) ten extra pounds, softer flesh"
("furrowed brows, ten extra pounds, softer flesh" )

Hope I'm not being too picky!
IMHO, yer a beauty inside and out!

Hugs,
Kimbob

    Kimbob,

I just finished reading your letter. Your life is full and your granddaughters are so beautiful.

Thank you so much for taking your time to read and review my work.

Like you, I am so very busy with life. I am so glad to see you are still physically active.

My two new hips gave me my life back almost immediately. It has taking years to catch up to the strength of running that I did from the 1980s to the first decade of the 2000. I know you can relate.

Thank you so much for pointing out the mistakes and for the wonderful review.
You are one reviewer I know who reads another?s work with full intent.

Again thank you so very much! I am honored.

I will haunt to your port in a bit. Again, thank you

    Jimi

I love how you redefine the true beauty of aging. For me, turning 70 is a long, long way to go, but your poem has made me yearn for that age even more. We shouldn't shudder at the fact that we're getting old year after year, but rather as a blessing that we get to experience so much over the years.

I love this! I am so over people who are completely focused on outward appearance and forget to develop their personality and brains. I really like the fact that you are embracing your age - the sad reality is that many people haven't had the opportunity to reach seventy, but were tragically taken before their prime. One little fix needed - "obseessed". Thanks for this share!
