This is a beautiful free verse poem Mike. I know you miss your granddaughter but the thought of her in a much happier place with keep the joy of Christmas alive. We all long for time when those who have gone one will once again be untied with us.

Hi, Beth. I couldn't walk by the giant stuffies in Walmart. We always bought her for Christmas. Thank again!

Hi Mike,
This is a sad and hopeful poem. It shows us the ones we lost are still alive and have healthy bodies. I gives good images of the night, the tree and the appearance of Shynoa. Sorry for your loss and you friend's loss.
Keep writing and stay healthy.
Good luck in the contest
Happy Holidays.

I thought this was a very poignant portrait of grief, doubly poignant because of the Christmas images and the images of the departed souls admiring all the Christmas decorations that contrast with the feeling of loss. I thought the voice just rolled with emotion. It was all from the heart and the soul. And the last stanza when you open that fist to find the two white feathers is just so emblematic of our reaching out to keep in touch with departed loved ones. estory

I felt your pain and the love that never ends in this bitter sweet poem. I loved the imagery. I am a firm believer that those who have transitioned do contact us in dreams. I have been contacted by several family members this was. I do hope the spirit of Christmas finds you thos season. Gretchen

This evoked tears. A heart-wrenching piece for Christmas. I'm about to have my second Christmas without my little five year old ginger miracle because of family conflict and I can identify with this sense of loss. Thank you for posting this. X

Hi there Mike,
This is the first read of yours that I have read in quite sometime. I never get any of your posts?
This is so beautifully written. I feel for your loss... How could that happen?? and for the loss of Atticus...
The pain must be horrible.

This poem, A Heavenly Visitor, destroys me as I feel the heavy loss of the dearest people in our lives. A beautiful poem to capture the mist of our loved ones' presence.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I know exactly how you feel because my husband departed last October (2023). It takes the Christmas spirit right out of a person's sails. But for the rest of the family, there needs to be a family Christmas. You wrote a wonderful poem, and the last paragraph was so sensational. God Bless you and your family this Christmas. It's not easy to lose someone you love.
