I like this poem, and how you included some of your life-story (your wife and three daughters, and your faith) as well as writing about her. Attic/fanatic is a great rhyme.

Good questions are asked within this piece while telling the history of a great and brave soul. So many younger kids are starting to say that things didn't happen, mostly because they were not around to see them or talk to those that were involved with them. People who are dying off and most likely taking the history with them.

We agree, but I express it this way: the young are so absorbed with themselves and their cell phone current events, that there is no room on their mental shelf for harsh realities. I do not pray that a reality hits them one day because I have experienced reality and it isn't fun. Thanks for your thoughtful review. Merry Christmas

Thank you for your complimentary and thoughtful review. To have this surprise draw of someone so important to me was indeed an honor. I did my best to honor her, and to connect that history to today's. Merry Christmas.

As a fellow Christian and student of the Holocaust, I have also long been moved by Anne's story. Her verve. wit and joir de vivre are so evident in her diary, even as she hid behind solid walls and was imprisoned for so long during a formative time in her life.

Thanks for reading my poem and sharing your thoughts. It was an honor to write it. More important than any prize is being able to share and remind people of the importance of our freedoms and our lives. These should never be taken for granted. Merry Christmas and Great New Year!

The story of Anne Frank was such a moving one for me a few years ago when I was learning about it in primary school. I was so struck by how calm she remained, writing peacefully in her journal under such horrendous circumstances. I agree with the first line, about how we can always appreciate the things that haven't changed, like Anne's beautiful determination to allow the world to hear about the Nazis. You pieced her life together so well in this short poem.

This is a very beautiful poem that you have written about a beautiful young lady. And Frank, indeed was a wonderful young girl who went through some very difficult times, and you have expressed those times of her life very well. I appreciate the effort that you put into this poem.

Thank you. As the father of daughters, I claim special empathy with that family. I'll never understand the hurting of a child. But, the world is an evil place. I did not know I would get Anne Frank when I signed up, but I could not have wished for a better challenge. And, her story fits so well with the atrocities of October 7 and since.

This is such an immensely sad story of this young girl who documented her life living in hiding in Nazi Germany. I like the way you broaden this tragedy out to include your own personal thoughts and mystification as to how this shameful episode in our history could ever have been allowed to occur. An excellent tribute to Anne Frank backed up by the message within the notes of your honour in writing this post. Thanks for sharing and good luck! Debbie
