Hi Navada, this is a wonderful poem about a remarkable woman. She fought he er way through life to overcome all the adversaries. Your poem is a joy to read. All the best of luck. Ulla:)))

This is a well-written biographical poem that provides an outline of the most important moments in the development of a fearless journalist about whom, sadly, many Americans are ignorant. I have assigned some of her muckraking journalism as primary sources in my classes. She was truly an exemplary spirit.

As an Australian and a history teacher among other things, I must confess she had never come across my radar. That in itself says something about the degree to which we are made aware of women's accomplishments versus those of men, particularly in this time and place. I was fascinated to learn about her while writing this piece and she will now be referenced in my own classes. Thanks so much for your feedback! I should know this already, but what do you teach?

I enjoyed your beautiful tribute to this pioneer in the fight for human rights. Well researched and informative- as well as inspiring. Thank you for sharing.

We need more like her even in this day and age of so called age of 'enlightenment' which is probably more evil than its ever been, man is notoriously biased and prejudicial, it's merely hidden in a shroud of hypocrisy and godlessness, brainwashing written, blessings Roy

This biography of a remarkable woman is well done in poetry. You have chosen to write about a trailblazer ahead of her time, a brave woman who faced all of her challenges with courage.

Thank you so much, Verna! I was actually given Ida as a topic from the contest organiser. I didn't know anything at all about her until I started my research. She is indeed fascinating. Thanks for your feedback! :)

This was a great piece. You packed in so much information into this. Ida was a remarkable woman and accomplished so much. Your research was phenomenal. She had such a hard life as a youngster, having to care for her siblings when she was just sixteen. The lynchings were indeed a dark period in the nation's history, but Ida had the nerve and talent to report on them. It was amazing that she accomplished so much with her writing. I actually thought this would be the winner. You used such great rhyme and did so much research. Congratulations on placing third. Have a wonderful Christmas and holiday season. judi

This is a well-written poem about Ida Wells. What a miracle woman she was. I enjoyed your poem. This is a difficult category to select, but there are several famous people in today's history.

Good job listing the sources. You don't see that as much as we should.

I was actually aware of IDA B Wells, from her journalistic angle, but had no idea she was so incredibly prominent.

It takes great strength to make great change. Very good write-up!

Good luck.

This poem is such a powerful resemblance of how Ida B Wells felt in the times and the accomplishments she made towards the civil rights movement. Growing up, she saw the sufferings and scars her mom went through at the hands of white men. At a young age, she was determined to fight for the rights of blacks, and she will forever be remembered for that. Thanks for sharing this lovely poetry!

Thank you so much, Austin! I didn't know anything about her previously and I'm so lucky I was given her name for this contest. :)

I'm from Britain, so she's not someone I'm very familiar with. Thank you for telling me about her in your poem. The work she did is inspirational. I've heard about Martin Luther King in the 60s, but don't think I realised the issue was publicised so early-on.

Thanks for teaching me a new word too - eschewed.

You're very welcome - thank you so much for your positive review! (I didn't even recognise Ida's name before I started researching her. This contest taught me a lot!) :)
