curiosity they said killed a cat. Do you believe this happened? Curiosity killed the cat is a proverb that warns of the dangers of unnecessary investigation or experimentation1. It means that being inquisitive or too curious about a thing to one's peril2. It suggests that a person who pokes their nose into other people's affairs or unknown places can find themselves in risky or unfortunate situations345. The cat is used as a metaphor for a curious person.

I, for one, hope nobody killed a cat, especially somebody named Curiosity. Me also thinks you did not do so well on my quiz Mrs Rosemary.

OH!!! I love this! I will be sending this one to my bookcase for sure! Thank you for educating me. I would imagine this will do VERY well in the contest -- not only is it clearly written, it's wonderful information for wordsmiths!

I knew a few of them, but I was interested in the rest and was quite surprised to read what they were.
Girraff's being a tower is obvious but interesting at the same time.

Interesting piece! Best, JohnC

Thanks, John! Did you know more than three? So far nobody has! Too funny.

I'm a former early childhood teacher, and one of the things I taught was the names of baby animals and groupings of animals. So I just knew I would know more than three on your list. WRONG! You listed some unusual groups, like Crows and Wombats. You gave me an unexpected chuckle when you said a group of people is called a crowd. Great class. Best wishes in the contest.

Thank you! I took the liberty to have a little fun here d the fact that we are all writers and don?t know most of these is quite interesting.

This is an interesting list, which I see has skipped some of the well-known groupings: pride of lions, caravan of camels, shrewdness of apes, colony of bats, clowder of cats, drove of donkeys, parade of elephants, gang of elk, business of ferrets, fesnying (yeah, that's a word) of ferrets, skulk of foxes, and tower of giraffes, etc.

I had a couple of those you listed, but alas, the two hundred word restriction limited me.
    Thanks for reviewing!

Nice work! this was fun and very educational. I find it interesting that there is a pattern: when animals get together there is a violent strain to it. Also.I like your reference to Alice and wonderland.

Hey Doug

Nope I'm a dummy! I only got the people one right! So taught me something teach, lol. And here I'm thinking I'm smart. Sometimes animals scare me, but truth be told I loved the hippos and parrot tribe names. Great write with this one. Good luck

This is a very interesting article, Teacher. I only knew three of the groups, so I learned a lot more here. You missed the congress of owls, which always amuses me. Well written and proof-read.

I'm absolutely ashamed to say I only knew one and a half - the crows and (sort of) the donkeys. I knew that a formation of starlings is a murmuration (just trying to redeem myself here a bit:) But now I'm quite depressed at how ignorant I am. This is a fascinating quiz, not least because I'm sure one of those words would always fit neatly into a 5-7-5. I particularly like the mischief of mice (great alliteration). Are you sure you wanted to give all this away?:) Good luck! Debbie.

I knew some of them. I have always liked a murder of crows. Another one I like is a parliment of owls. I knew the donkeys and the zebras. The rest of them I din't know, so I learned something new. Best of luck in the contest.
