Debbie, this is interesting. I am not much of a poet. So my first thought after reading your notes. This would make an interesting prose story on wildlife. Maybe you could do a series similar to some poem series you have done. But then you also explained what you were doing with the poem, and that's when I understood how clever you are! Good job. Terry.

Thank you so much, Terry! As ever, I greatly appreciate you and your kind thoughts. I'm not sure how much more I could add although I think their clever ability to avoid collision with each other is something we could all learn from:)) Take care Debbie

Hi Debbie,
Thanks for this interesting nature fact in this haiku. I like how the formation looks like a bird. I assume the bird in the foreground is a starling.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Have an enjoyable rest of the week.
Joan

Thank you so much, Joan! Yes, the bird in the foreground is a starling. We have lots in the UK but, maybe, you haven't seen them so much where you are. As ever, I greatly appreciate your kind review and thoughts. Debbie

I like 'stirring formation'. That's a great idea. Not entirely convinced by 'stellar' though? For me it just means stars? Pun? Really? Oh I suppose star-ling. ok then. Great haiku though. Could do well. X

Thanks John! It does have other meanings: primary, primal, principal, predominant etc. but I also like the star imagery. I appreciate the questioning but we do get there in the end:) Contest miles away, enough time to forget which is always welcome. Take care Debbie X

Fascinating! I would have reviewed sooner...but I've spent the last ten minutes watching

Starlings Flying " Starling Murmuration

On YouTube.

I'm breathless!

(I tried to leave the link, but FS blocked it...)

Oh my!

If you can, please share that beneath your wonderful haiku...

Yet another reason to stand in awe of all God's creatures!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thank you so much, Karenina! They are breathtaking aren't they? No squabbling up there (well not so that we can hear:)) They just give you fresh hope. Your thoughts are always appreciated. Debbie PS Funny, a squab is a young, unfledged pigeon so I'm going off on a bit of a bird tangent there:))

Thanks Karen! Your review and thoughts are, as ever, warmly appreciated. Isn't nature wonderful when it teaches us a thing or two (often as it happens)? Debbie

Fabulous image, great notes, (always informative), and an excellent Haiku as the focal point. They may be tiny birds, but they have wonderful skills and instincts and it is great to see them celebrated in a fine Haiku. Best wishes for the contest.

Thank you so much, Wendy! Your kind review and thoughtful comments, as ever, greatly appreciated. This was on the news this morning amid all the other dire stuff I keep resolving not to watch. And it just stops you in your tracks with wonder and relief that only nature can provide sometimes. Take care Debbie x

Oh wow! You have touched on a sensitive spot with me -- I gave up my starling baby two years ago -- we rescued him when he and a sibling fell from the nest. We had him for a while and became very attached to this funny, clever bird. But of course, we released him when we felt it was time. I actually wrote at great length about it -- we named him "Houdini" for how clever he was with his tricks, and so on (and he was still VERY young)!

Starlings are WONDERFUL birds, IMO, and murmurations are a joy to behold!

But I'm going on and on and haven't really commented on your haiku -- yet I suppose my excitement tells you how much I like it!!!!!!

Thank you so much, Deborah! I'm absolutely delighted that this meant so much to you. It's such an inspiring sight isn't it? You just realise how superior and clever they are up there while we're....well, what are we doing down here?:) Debbie x
