Wow! Now that is a bad place to get gas. I am also one who hates being late, though I am not sure I would go to a restaurant soaked in gasoline. I think the added insult of having the others arrive late, would make all the rest of the trip seem like even more of a nightmare.

Thanks Bill, I"m surprised at how so many have told me they hate to be late. In my family now, there is no one other than me who gives a fig whether they are late or not. Even my husband wasn't motivated to be on time. My dad was like me and maybe his anxiety about being late is what rubbed off on me. My mom was another one who tended to be late.

Oh my goodness! I too hate to be late... and if really running out if time, invariably, I will be like you... can't find my shoe, I notice the shirt is stained ... gotta change of cours... can't find my keys... and then always in that obvious place you look in last, etc.
But... thankfully I've never arrived anywhere smelling like fuel ( hopefully I haven't jinxed myself.. lol)
Great story and thanks for sharing this with us.

Thank you for the great review. I've had all those things you mention conspire to make me late as well. Hopefully the gasoline incident is a one time thing.

Oh, my! What a catastrophe, or a near-catastrophe. So glad you were all right. I can relate to having to deal with those pumps and all their inquiries. But if it says I have to go inside to pay, I leave. Better, I let my husband gas up the car!

Thank you. I appreciate the review and comments. I leave too when I'm told I have go inside to pay. Usually there a long wait inside and my knees resist have to stand long. I go somewhere else because I have no one else to fill my car.

I can't imagine anything worse than getting petrol on your clothes. I too hate being late to anywhere. I'm always the one that arrives early, and I start getting very nervous if I'm with a group of people and they're all stalling. A really well written piece, Beth, you kept me engaged from start to finish. I really enjoyed it.

Thank Jacob. I'm glad my story kept you engaged and you enjoyed it. I appreciate the review and I hope you found it amusing. It wasn't funny at the time but in introspect, It was a bit humorous.

A great story that held my attention (I'm not good at long reads). Judging from your examples in paragraph two, I'd say you carry this 'fetish' to an extreme. You managed to tell your experience at the strange gas station with humor even though it wasn't. I always loved the smell of gasoline so it wouldn't have bothered me.

Yes, I really I carry this too far but I do panic about the need to be on time. I'm sure I didn't learn anything and I will do it again. I think I got the fetish from my dad. He was always in the car blowing the horn for Mom to hurry long before they needed to be somewhere. Thank you for the six stars.

OMG this is so funny! I hate the smell of petrol so being doused in it would have made me sick. Good job there were no naked flames around!! I hate being late too and usually end up being early but I do begin to panic if I think I'm going to be late. Thanks for making me giggle.

Thank you Wendyanne. I'm glad you like this and got a chuckle from reading it. I'm finding there are a lot of people on this site the want to early for everything. There isn't a single one in my family other than me that worries about being on time.

Hahahaha, you silly woman! I love it.
However, I can totally understand your frustration. 'Where the heck is that enter button when I need it?'
But you being soaked in gas must have been funny yet frustrating.
What a great story, Beth. Ulla xcx

Thank you Ulla. It was anything but funny at the time and didn't plan to write about it, but my son told me, "Don't beat yourself up too bad. You can make a story out of it." It took almost a week to realize he was right. I glad you got a laugh. Thank you ever so much for the six stars.

No, I can understand if you didn't laugh at the time. I don't think I would have been either. But I agree with your son. It makes for a great story. xx

It's late on Saturday night and I'm trying to catch up my reviews with frustration setting in, but thanks to you I'm now laughing and don't give a darn whether I get them all read or not. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

Well, I so glad I could provide some comic relief to your Saturday night's frustration. I got behind too and sixty review I needed reads and dozens of answer to those who have reviewed mine. When it gets like that I don't read the one that aren't promote and paying more than 2 cents. I don't write if I can't promote them for at least three or four days.

What people do to support their sense of self is incredible. This is an interesting article. I enjoyed reading it. I do not see any room for improvement. Have a blessed day.

I'm very curious about the two stars when you say you enjoyed reading it and you see no room for improvement. I've never gotten two stars before. I'm also curious about your comment, "What people do to support their sense of self is incredible." What does that even mean? Beth

Your post speaks of the frustrations we feel when dealing with contemporary technology, and also of dealing with the personal idiosynchrosies that box us into these regimented behaviors. I liked all the personal details that you put in that made the scene especially at the gas pump come alive. I could smell the gasoline here. estory

Thank you for the excellent review. Yes it was a frustration day and in this case technology was partly to blame for my problems.
