This was a meaningful tanka, Gypsy. Your words were meant to be successful. The picture of the monk sitting crossed legged on the rock made sure of that. The sunset and dusk the fooling morning. Remember it well. Blessed Be n Hugs!!!

That's a great way to illustrate death and resurrection. The new day with the sunrise is one picture of a re-creation of a brand new day after the death of the previous one.

maybe delete the 'as' in the fourth line?
monk basks in the sun
contemplating the meaning
of life after death--
the sun sets at night
and rises the following day
just a thought for you to kick around lol
good tanka with nice imagery
