A lovely poem. I appreciate the rhyme in the structure. I also love the phrase "Forgive the sinner, not the sin." I had to do math to understand the poem. 70 x 7 = 490. I thought that was a funny phrase. Although when I looked it up, I think the words were "seventy-seven." I like your number though.

This is a beautifully expressed little free verse, well presented with strong message. The theme evolves throughout with biblical reference and then a calling to draw on our inner virtue of forgiveness by forgiving the sinner not the sin. By so doing, that act can generate peace and calmness. Excellently done! Good luck! Debbie

Thanks for sharing about the wisdom learned from that priest. I like how you started with the quote and I like the rhymed verses. My favorite part was: "Forgive the sinner, not the sin,
And your inner peace and calmness begin"
Best wishes in the contest!

As the first part of this poem is actually from the New Testament, I don't think that you need it. You could have started from 'To forgive is an act of will..' This would have made the poem read better too as the meter of the first bit is completely different from the rest of the poem. Also, I think the poem would have been better if you had made all of the lines in the second stanza rhyme rather than just three of them or made lines 1 and 3 rhyme and lines 2 and 4.
Good luck in the contest

I think there is a limit on forgiveness before we just give up and walk away. But here there is endless forgiveness so that we achieve some peace, I wish you luck with the contest, love Dolly x x. x

it was our sins that caused Christ to go to the Cross. Even if it were just you or just me, Christ would offer us forgiveness and suffer and die for us. His Resurrection proves we can be forgiven and be given New Life. If Christ did that for us, the very least we can do is forgive others.

Such a beautiful prayer can be recited at any time by anyone. I am a non-believer but would carry this in my mind were it necessary. Prayer isn't just for believers but for soul in need..
