Thank you so much for this fine submission. You speak my heart in many ways and you also touch on valid points. This one is a keeper for anyone. A truly prolific piece of work.
There is much in this world but people ask the age-old question of why. I believe that when we pass all the world's a window and that we're come into life with a certain set of things to learn. And we plan our lives according to those lessons. This is the most negative planet in God's universe. the boot camp for souls if you will. the place where lessons are learned the quickest.
Having said that, I see no issues with grammar, esthetics, spelling, or sentence structure so great job! I wish the best of luck and have a great evening!

    Hello Lea,
thanks so much for the wonderful review and thought provoking comments. God doesn't give us all the answers, but requires us to live by faith for so much. I suppose if anyone ever had a right to ask why, it was Job, but when God spoke to him, He didn't give him the reasons for his troubles, but instead spoke of His authority and attributes. Of course in the end Job was blessed with more than he started off with.
    Have a blessed day gal.

An engaging and thoughtful essay. I have often pondered on your basic question of why does God allow all this evil to exist in the world He created. I realize the answer is beyond my mortal understanding. What would I do if I were God? Good question. Well done!

    Hello John,
thanks so much for the great review. Of course I would be a sorry substitute for the Lord. Everything I have is the result of His giving it to me. For reasons He doesn't explain, He allows certain troubles into each of our lives. I suppose when times are good, we should thank Him and rejoice, and when they aren't we need to believe that He has everything under control and the outcome will be what is best for us.
    Have a blessed evening.

"If I were God?" My reply is that we are all part and parcel of God, created in his image and as a son/daughter of our creator, It is our job to be His hand, His wallet, His ears, His caring in this. We are here to represent God's goodness and mercy where we live. For me, it is too much to try to think beyond what I can really do - which is very little - but so important. If everyone approached every day with that thought, we would live in a better situation. Well written essay. Good luck. ann

    Hello Ann,
thanks so much for the thoughtful review and comments. You're right, we're supposed to be representing God here on this earth. As the saying goes, all that we have is His and we just give it out of His hand. I get distressed at times when people that I care for are having a hard time. I would love to step in and make it all better. but I can't. I can, however pray for God's will in their situation, and having done that, sit back and see how He will act.

We all question the disparity present in our world and wonder why God would allow this to be? Your essay explores this and arrives at the conclusion we all reach, and that is, it is beyond our understanding. However, in your words, you display your humanity and your compassion, and your openness to love and kindness. These qualities makes our world a better place. God would be pleased. Fine writing.

    Hello Ginda,
thanks so much for your very kind words. I guess it's a universal thing to wonder why some folks seem to suffer so much. Honestly, if I'm truthful, on the one hand I'm happy that it's not happening to me. Nonetheless, it hurts me to see others suffering, especially those whom I care for.

Tom, I don't have any more sixes. But I will make like the committee and make it a virtual Seven. You may not have the integrity of Job. Personally I'm not sure about that. But you know Jesus chose a fisherman to led the Apostles. Well done. Terry

    Hello Terry,
thanks so much for the outstanding review. I really appreciate it. Now I'm going to be afraid to write something that is of a more carnal nature. People might think I'm upright or something, but I struggle like all of us for sure. Perhaps more so than some. I do appreciate your very kind words my friend.
    Have a blessed day.

I most certainly enjoyed your essay, Tom.
It renders much "food for thought."
Yes, many members on the site are hurting and suffering, and they feel comfortable sharing their pain and challenges with the readership. To an extent, I applaud their courage in doing so.
I once challenged a Dominican nun - at the all-knowing age of 13 - why God allows suffering and why - according to the Bible - He allowed Eve to eat the apple in the Garden of Eden in the first place.
Suffice it to say, she did not appreciate my questioning, and the only answer I received was to have my seat moved to the back of the classroom, a scholarship to a music camp rescinded, and an English award denied me due to my "negative attitude."
So it goes.
All part of the journey.

Thank you for sharing!

    Hello Diane,
thanks so much for the great review gal, and for sharing that story.
If I may be so bold, I'm glad I didn't go to the Catholic school. I did have a crush on a few of those gals in their plaid uniforms, but that's as far as I ever came to belonging to the faith. It's really too bad that she didn't give you an answer to your question. Of course Job never got an answer from God either, at least not an explanation for his troubles. I'm really glad that the some of the folks on here are comfortable sharing their problems. We all need to be able to talk to someone, and knowing that there are so many empathetic people on this site makes sharing easier.
Have a blessed day my friend.

This is flawlessly, sincerely and humbly written, Tom, and I was
fully engaged from the start. Your lovely story doesn't seek to find answers to all the suffering in life and that's so welcome because we're all inclined to ask "why" without acknowledging that there are too many complexities in life ever to fully understand. If we were all glowing with happiness and good health, nothing could be learned or gained because we would never know the opposite or be inspired to help each other along life's path. No matter what besets us, we're all heading in the same direction and that alone gives us a common bond of unity and togetherness. It can only be hoped that the good outweighs the bad and that we do our little bit to facilitate that. God will do the rest, as you say. A great, thought-provoking post! Debbie

    Hello Debbie,
thanks so much for the encouraging review and comments. If we didn't know what it was like to suffer, how could we ever be compassionate enough to help others who are suffering? Life can be a trial, and no one escapes without some issues. It's always good to encourage each other as we walk this path, knowing that somewhere down the pike we'll need to hear those words of prayer and encouragement.
    Have a blessed day.

A broken heart and a contrite spirit, the scriptures say. And so does your post.
I wrote and deleted a bunch here.
A simply as I can say what's in my heart is the time-worn question: WWJD?
Blessings upon you.

    Hello Wayne,
thanks so much for the generous review. I think it's a good practice to keep in mind the way our Lord walked on this earth, and of course we have the holy spirit to help us along the way. I wish I could honestly say that I always follow His leading, but I don't. I'm easily distracted by my carnal nature and fall often. I lean heavily on the Lord's grace and mercy to get me through each day and look forward to the time when my actions will align more closely with God's desire for my heart.
Have a blessed day my friend.

Good Morning Tom,
This is brilliant! I think you were truly inspired by God to write this. There are so many things we don't understand and wonder why God's children have to suffer so. I read in one of my devotionals that the most beautiful flowers are found on the highest and most rugged mountaintops. Their beauty is the result of their being exposed to the most harsh and severe conditions of nature; conditions that the flowers down in the valley never see. Likewise, God's children may suffer pain and suffering during their lives. It's His way of molding them into the most beautiful of His creations. They only have to persevere through faith and trust in Him. After all, look what our Savior Jesus Christ endured...and He was perfect. Thank you for sharing this incredible work.
John

    Hello John,
I'm honored by your generous review and encouraged by your comments. You're right, it's only in the testing of our faith that it grows. There are a handful of people on this site that I'm aware of that seem to be tested in ways that I fear I wouldn't stand up under. They persevere through the hardships and hold on to their faith and because of them, I am encouraged. Because they are willing to share their trials, we can intercede on their behalf and thus be blessed along with them.
    Have a blessed day.

I totally agree with you, Tom. I've had family members and friends who have endured far greater suffering than I think I could possibly withstand. There's no answer to the question, why they suffer so. But I think you've touched on the secret to their perseverance...their faith and our prayers. One day we will understand. Blessings to you as well.

What I saw in this posting was a man with a big heart and feeling powerless that he can not fix that which cannot be repaired.
A heartfelt and warm reading.
Best wishes,

    Hello Mary,
thanks so much for the very kind review and comments. I'm sure that most of us wish we could do more to alleviate the pain and troubles that so many are facing in these disturbing times. Watching those we love suffer is exceptionally painful and there is no good answer to give. I suppose it's what faith is about. We have to believe that God loves us unconditionally and knows what is best for all of us. Still, it hurts.
    Have a blessed evening gal.
