Hear-hear! I agree that it's a very important part of social grace and also it creates a more thankful heart. I made my kids write thank-you notes but my kids do not continue the tradition. Great message. Best wishes in the contest!

Same. It's so disheartening. I have always felt that thank-you notes can save the world.

Well, we say thank you a lot here on FS. We can start with just this small space.

I agree Rachelle. All good things eventually come around again so I hope that a revival comes soon. Everyone's in such a hurry these days. It's very sad.
Great mixed metre poem with excellent rhymes! Really enjoyed and good luck.

I love thank you notes and my friend still sends me a thank you note when I send her a birthday card and gift. These days it is all done on line and for me something is missing about a note on line and it is the personal touch. I enjoyed your fine words here as you pay tribute to thank you notes, love Dolly x x x

An excellent poem making a valid point about the niceties of social grace via appreciative thank-you notes. Our snail mail delivery service has been reduced so much... if only more people wrote nice notes to each other we might have a more reliable postal service. Long live the personal touch.

I agree. A hand written thank you note means so much more to the gift giver than a computer generated one. A mass volume group email sort of sends the message ok, get this out of the way. Awell written commentary.

My own daughter sent a beautiful thank-you text to attendees at her wedding. It was a beautiful e-card, but it was a TEXT. Younger people didn't care, but I can only imagine how older people like me felt.

I agree with every word in your creative ode to thank-you notes. You rhythmically described the way thank you notes were once regarded, and by verse three, acknowledged the receivers reaction to a speedy note. Well done. Best wishes in the contest.

You're right. We're in that generation that knew the value of the written word. Kids do EVERYTHING electronically these days, so expecting them to actually sit down and handwrite a thank-you note, is like expecting women of our generation to hand-embroider pillowcases. It's sad, but life changes. (Waaaaaahhhhh!)

Thank you for the very validating review. I appreciate it.

Haha! My mother taught me how to embroider pillowcases.

I taught myself!! I still do it to this day; do you?

I no longer embroider pillowcases. Since I used to sew, I put fancy borders on blouses and skirts I made, and once on a pair of curtains. I don't do it at all now.

I used to sew every day. For awhile, I even had my own business: making and designing children's clothes that clients would order to specifications. Now, I just sew occasionally. I never imagined I would ever have days when I didn't sew, though. (And I don't miss it; that surprised me, too, for a long time.)

I'm with you. There is nothing that shows appreciation more than a hand-written Thank You note. Sure, it takes a little longer, but someone took the time to search for and buy a gift. A moment to write and post a note is just a recognition of the gift giver's time and effort.
Excellent ode with a percise meter and good end rhymes. I hope you do well in the contest.
