How fun to have so many people visit for the World's Fair. You got to see quite an assortment of people. You must be a wonderful person to host so many people.

We've got a family member like your Christi. We have to tell her we are starting any activity at least an hour before it really starts and she still is late. Recently, she missed the christening of her first grandchild. She arrived a few minutes after the ceremony was completed. I felt bad, but there was a time crunch at the church and they couldn't wait any longer.

Thank you for the review. The person you mention sound exactly like Christi. We always give her a time to be at a gathering at least an hour ahead and she is still late.

Sounds like Christi was a handful, but aren't they all, but only in different ways. LOL. But we love them all so much that we just follow along as best we can to be there for them. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you again, Ric. Even now Christi is a handful. The others have finally grown up. Some never do. At least she lives on her own and it isn't me she keeps waiting. LOL

This is another riveting story about the Shelby family. I particularly took note of your mother's story. She was right to question her doctor and then leave when he became offended. Ochsner Medical Center didn't find any cancer, Amen. All I can say about Christi is, the airline taught her a lesson that night.

A couple of typos:
Don brought about eight of his fellow camp councilors (counselors)
Once 1985 rolled around, all Christi was determined to make a trip (remove 'all')
she had sit on it to close it. (she had 'to' sit on it)

Thank you so much for the review and for seeing those errors. For some reason I can't seem to learn how to spell counselors. I always mssspell that word. Mother's story was interesting. That is more to it than I told here. I may write a short story about just that.

I hope you tell your mother's story. It reminded me of my husband's story when he was diagnosed with cancer. It's a story I should write.

I am shocked at your Mum's treatment and her questioning of the doctor and then to find out there was no sign of cancer? Perhaps the original doctor was incompetent? Australia is a long way from America and it must have been worrying to have your family at risk of living in another country if they marry! Love Dolly x x x

The story of Mom's cancer would require a longer explanation than I wanted for this post. I think she might have been misdiagnosed, although the doctor assured her she had both thyroid cancer and lymphoma. She didn't go to the doctor with any symptoms. It was check-up. He felt her throat and thought he detected a lump. He did biopsy which was sent to three different labs and took a month to come back as cancer. After surgery, he said it couldn't all be removed and started chemo. Dad never believed she had cancer. I gave her a book in which a women claimed to have cured her lymphoma with juicing greens. Mom tried it, so I don't if there was ever cancer or not.
Yes, I didn't want Christi to marry the Australian, although one of her close friend did marry a boy from Australia and she went there to live. Eventually her mother moved there as well.

How dreadful to be misdiagnosed Beth, we just cannot trust doctors these days, thank you for explaining x x x

Very interesting story. Yes, I am sure the Aussie accent and some expressions were difficult for you, as some of yours are for us Aussies. Lol. Cultural differences even in the English-speaking world. Did she learnt to become more on time after this experience?

Thank you Wendy. I think the people she stayed with insisted on her being prompt. When she came home seemed different for a while, but with time her old habbits returned.

I would be driven nuts, too! How did Christi pay for the overnight stay? I guess she did manage to get on board the next flight okay. Those poor people in Australia waiting for her. How did she let them know?
Another busy time of life for you!

Thank you Helen. Christi is night owl. She just stayed up all night and likely slept on the plane. I never learn how they found out she would be on a later flight.

I can sympathize about all the visitors. We used to live in a resort town, and in summertime, we discovered friends we didn't know we had. lol. One of my daughters-in-law makes everyone late. Drive me up the wall! I like to be early.

Thank you for a great review. You seem to know exactly how I felt. Both New Orleans and not Chattanooga seem to tourist towns so I've had my share of visitors.

Your mom was diagnosed with cancer, then after juicing was told she didn't have cancer? That leads to the question: Was she misdiagnosed originally or did the power of suggestion reverse the disease (which I doubt, but it calls for some explanation!).

Carol and Christi both had Glens?

Remember when you could miss a flight and just book the next one for free because the planes were never full? Fat chance of that ever happening again!

Look forward to your company from Down Under. Future in-laws, I presume.

Pam

Whats the old saying... if you're not 15 minutes early, you're ten minutes late.

The only Worlds Fair I've been to was the one in New York (1964?).

Good post. You have a knack for moving the story along and not get wordy.

Can't wait to read about the 'down under' visitors.

Cheers, mate!

Strange. Both Christi and Carol had guys named Glen???
And if I was you and found out after driving over the limit he missed her flight ... well. I'llbe kind.

Thank you Tom, Carol married Glen Egolf and Christi's boyfriend was Glen Townsend. If someone missed the plane and you had driven over the speed limit to get them there you'd be kind of what?
Kind of angry and frustrated? Yeah, we were too.
