Oh, this is just too good to be sitting here waiting for one more review to be "recognized!" "autumn's first tears"-- It's one of those "Wow, I wish I'd thought of that" lines! Stunning 5-7-5! Nice alliteration here as well!
Bravo to you!

Today? Autumn's first tears fell from the sky...as SNOW!

    WHAT? It's November FIRST!

Hi Crystie,
This 5-7-5 uses metaphor and personification well to describe this bird sitting in a tree after and Autumn rain. Did the picture or the poem come first?
Congrats on placing second in the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Have a great day.
Joan

Thank you for your super review. I thought of a blackbird first and started searching for blackbird ideas. There are some fantastic bird photos on fanartreview.com that always exceed anything I could photograph in our suburban neighborhood.

Filled with beautiful imagery and emotion, this is a truly lovely verse and well deserving of its win. I love the last line. Its notes linger. Well done!

Excellent use of alliteration. The blackbird might be thinking of making a trip to warmer climates. I appreciate your use of autumn's first tears. to me, autumn is a sad time because it's a reminder of winter to come. You've captured the feeling of autumn. Best of luck in the contest. judi

Lovely picture indeed. I like your alliteration here and the way you convey the character of the watching bird, taking in nature's changes. Then you finish with the metaphor of weeping rain. Excellent. Well done and good luck.

Oh yes - our feathered friends probably feel the change in the seasons even before we humans do - lovely image 'autumn's first tears' and a great pic to accompany

This 5-7-5, Blackbird Perches, has the proper formatting and finds the ebony witness to the changing season and the ever cooling and saturating elements.

Nice alliteration in both the first and second lines. You paint a vivid picture with your verse. The picture just supports it. I love the closing line. Autumn is certainly around the corner.
Best of luck in the contest.

That's such a beautiful bird! I love the alliterative "calm as compassion" and he does look like he's calm and compassionate and what a soothing thing to see as we bade summer farewell. Best wishes in the contest!
