I grew up without cell phones, computers, the internet...and I long for those days again. Life was simpler, you had to actually go out and meet people in person, not friend them on Facebook.

Thanks for the excellent review and you are exactly right. Life is simpler without all these gadgets. Why should I need a cellphone and download an app to read a restaurant menu? Except that it saves the restaurant money. it would be something if they gave you something off the bill, but I haven't seen that yet. Instead they pocket the wider profits, I bet. estory

You can always get off the grid and move out into the boonies. Personally I like to eat and stay in contact with my loved ones so I'm happy to unpluging for a few hours and go take a nap outside in nature. If something happen to the power grid, I'll have no problem because I grew up practically without any of those things. We had no electricity and no indoor plumbing for a few years. In those days everyone needed a lot of strength and energy because we had to work hard to survive.

Thanks for the excellent review and your perspective on my piece. If we really want to save the planet, we need to get rid of electricity. These data centers, especially the ai data centers, use massive amounts of energy, although nobody talks about it. Simpler living is better living, I say. estory

You cannot go anywhere now without a phone dinging with a message or ringing loudly for attention. Couples go out to dinner and they sit at the table both on their phones, what fun is that? Your post is so poignant. Here you take it one step further and was to be far away from electricity. I once took a holiday on a boat for around 3 weeks without any electricity, it was very hard and I was glad to get back to civilisation, a very interesting post, love Dolly x

Thanks for the excellent review and your interesting perspective on my piece. I have been on dates with women who just sit there and stare at their phones for hours. It's ridiculous. I walk around in parks and see all these young people walking around staring into their phones. This isn't living, I say. estory

Everything you said in your notes and in your well-chosen, ranting words I 100% agree with. Even this computer and keyboard...When I was a teen and my aunt gave me an antique Underwood typewriter, I felt more like a writer.

Thanks for the excellent review and your comments supporting my piece. I still write original drafts with a pen and notebook. It just feels more tapped into my spirit that way. estory

I entered a theatrical play competition a few months ago, while I was battling infections during long hospital and rehab stays. I can't tell you how many pens, notebook, and scrap paper I went through. I'm still surrounded by them!

I think you're absolutely right, the problem is if we want to be part of it, we will cave in to the pressure, although I only really use my cell phone for incoming and outgoing calls. But really just for writing, my grands seem to have the latest, Lord protect them, beautifully written my friend, blessings Roy

Thanks for the excellent review and your comments on the theme of my little piece. I use my phone only for running music in my car. Which is ridiculous too, because its costing me $700 a year between the cellphone service and the music service. I had a library of cds that cost me that much. But the car doesn't come with a cd player, so that's that. estory

I had a simple safety type cell phone with no interest up until 2021. When people would say look something up or open a link I would laugh. Now we have one cell with Internet but just practical apps out banks etc. I completely understand. I truly enjoyed reading your work. It is excellent writing with a supportive presentation! You've used imagery and specific words that draw in a reader.Best wishes! Alexandra

Oh you have me thinking alright. When I go for a walk with my dog or by myself, I've got the phone with me as a precaution, but it's switched. I refuse to be a slave to it. If I go out eating with a friend, the phone stays at home. Likewise my friend's. So to the restaurant's bemusement they have to produce a card or recite the menu.
I know exactly where you're coming from in this well written poem. Ulla:)))

It is ridiculous. What's the point of going out for a meal then? It just doesn't make sense to me..

Wow. I felt every part of this given the relative length also allowed me to enjoy each and every part as I flowed along with the words.
Almost every part of technology (or many) are named...text message, facebook, cookies
Each so masterfully placed.
It all reminded me of when I took a religion class with a teacher who always pointed out the AC and how we've grown complacent with this "controlled" life free of basically anything. This false freedom. This false connectivity.
Back then people felt distance, now it's just a text away. Hell make an account for free. Just track and sell my information. It's cold turn on the heater, set it to comfortable temp, same with AC. And every morning (or well I guess on occasion, but relatively often) he'd have us take a walk outside and feel "real" cold and watch birds fly.
Leading me to think of God's Grandeur by Gerard Manley Hopkins
"the soil Is bare now, nor can foot feel, being shod."

Thank you taking the time to share. I've enjoyed this one. Deeply.

I agree with you. We need to unplug and get back to the basics. Life was simpler and so much easier. We've done away with cable and our landline. We do have a cell phone, but don't pay for all the bells and whistles. It's only for calling family and dear friends. My computer is used for writing and FanStory. We use old fashioned checks and don't use debit cards. We have a credit card for emergencies only and don't owe any money on it. Society needs to get the message.

Thanks for the excellent review and I live pretty much the same way. I use my phone to run music in my car, and that's only because Hyundai doen't put a cd player in them anymore. so now I have to pay $700 a year to play music in my car. This is what i paid for a whole library of cds. In the end, it's about making money for these companies. estory

Come to live in my village where the only way you can get mobile coverage is to stand on a tall ladder in a neighbouring field when there is an R in the month or something similar. I can remember what it was like before mobile phones and laptops, when you could go into a shop and talk to someone and when people looked where they were going when out walking. It was great so I agree with this poem whole heartedly. There were proper poetry groups then too when people met and talked about their poems.
With regard to the poem I think that I would not have said pop ads popping up as it is too much popping but the rest of the poem is great. It's a bit of a rant but I'm with you there - bring back paper maps too as I am fed up telling people that their sat nav should not have sent them into our no exit village road.

Thanks for the excellent review and your perspective on my poem. I am for simpler living. I still write with a notebook and pen. still use paper checks. I don't like all this auto pay that hooks you and then its impossible to terminate. Bring back the poetry books. The printing presses. One thing people need to realize is that the job you save might be your own. estory
