Nicely done.
I kind off dance in limbo - Did you mean 'of'?
"Poor thing, you make my heart sink. Should I let you go?" - Don't you mean "Wild thing, you make my heart sing. You make everything groovy"?
Sorry, I couldn't help myself.
Best wishes.

I do that all the time, much to my wife's chagrin!

Both my daughter and my sister are plant people who grow lots of plants. Even my husband has at least ten plants he nurtures on our patio. I'm like you. A friend once gave me an orchid plant with flowers, as a gift. The flowers lasted a month and the leaves were dead after three months. I guess I needed the magical concoction. I hope it works for Orchie. Best wishes in the contest.

I always get a kick out of your cute and witty personality in your stories. Of course, you bring out my smart aleck side more than most, which sometimes isn't as humorous to other as it is to me. Having not seen your name pop up for months, I was glad to see your posts and get your review. Thanks for sharing.

HAHAHAHA! I've never tried to raise an orchid, myself, but I have lots and lots of friends who have and have mentioned pretty much this same scenario. I hope your concoction works. In the meantime, I hope this adorable entry does well for you in the contest!

A fun little story about Orchie and her health issues. This reads clearly and engagingly and I found myself becoming quite immersed in the relationship and the struggle for survival. You have your own very pleasing style of writing which is both informal and quite colloquial at times and this gives the story-line a punchy, well paced quality. Thanks for sharing and good luck! Ah the frustrations of gardening in the contemporary suburban era. So many skills in that regard seem to have been lost to our society. The proverbial green thumb has become a coccyx for so many of us. But I have my own issues down here...mostly with voles and southern blight. Plants they say are pretty simple; it's a combination of soil, light and water. But getting the finer points of that combination right is the trick that can be so elusive. estory

Don't feel bad. When my wife was alive, she tried her hardest to have a nice garden and rarely had success.
This was a great entry for this competition. You fulfilled all requirements in an entertaining way. Should do well!

I love that you use personification throughout the entire account. The reader becomes endeared to Ochie. I also love the name of the Orchid especially if this is read out loud. Others may miss the entire play on words. You have some good use of alliteration.

A sweet and amusing tragic tale. I have a very similar orchid, resplendent in sticks and a few leaves but not a flower for a year. Maybe they're friends? Just a couple of typos: 'unfortunately' and 'sink' (not 'sync').

I loved it. Cute enough to rate a bonus star. Well done.
Comedic, yet likely, personally true.
If the orchid fails to come around, try a snake plant ... however they never flower.
