And this is how it's done -- what an exceptional acrostic poem. I have no sixes left this week, or believe me, this would be awarded what is so richly deserved. Sublime!!!!!!!!!****************************************

Well, I suppose the kind words and lavish praise will just have to do, then! haha

Thanks very much, Dawn. I appreciate the encouragement :)

    Have a great weekend!

Hi Craig
This is a poem that shows we have to start be accepting of people instead of being afraid or humanity will end up doing it self in. Then Jonathan Swift's quote would become totally true.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Congrats on winning the contest.
Have a great day.

Congratulations on your win!

I love Jonathan Swift and I can almost guarantee that 90% of the people who think they know what Gulliver's Travels is all about don't have a clue that every word was written to criticise and ridicule the human race - from the stupid pointless conflicts between Big Endians and Little Endians and the wars between Lilliput and Brobdingnag to their inhumanity towards other species, as highlighted in the land of the Houyhnhnms and Yahoos.

Cleverly constructed Acrostic with a strong message.

Good to see you back here and picking up a win to boot.

Steve

Thanks very much Steve. Now, if the Matildas can just hang on against Denmark, it will be the perfect night! Cheers, Craig

I loved Jonathan Swift in high school. So few people realize Gulliver's Travels had more voyages than just the visit to the land of the little people and the land of the giants. That's probably because that's as far as the movies ever seem to take us. I like that your picture shows one of my favorite of his misadventures, the land of the Houyhnhnm and the Yahoos.
This is a well constructed Acrostic Poem. You tell of a virus invading the Earth. At first it might seem like Covid or some other virus, but you warn, as Jonathan Swift often warned, about the misanthropic ways of man. We will destroy ourselves if we don't change course.
Best of luck in the contest. I hope you do well.

Thank you for the lovely comments, and I'm glad you are familiar with the Houyhnhnm story - also one of my favourites. We have several equines sharing our little patch of the Earth, and they often make me feel like a yahoo :) Cheers, Craig

Don't you just love the challenge of an Acrostic poem... I never heard of this form until last year so this is sad because I am quite sure I would have enjoyed it as a child.
All my best in the contest.

Thank you, Lisa. They can be quite challenging, especially if you try to rhyme them or follow some other form as well -- but you don't have to do any of that. Thanks for the good wishes :) Craig

This acrostic poem, ANTHROPOPHOBIA, has the proper vertical formatting and reveals the virus to be us. Unfortunately, the awareness of our own destructive tendencies is not enough, perhaps, to slow our suicide.

You set yourself quite a challenge with this Acrostic, Craig.I haven't heard of this phobia before. At first I thought the virus was Covid, then I realised (I hope I'm right) that it was man and man's greed. Well done, and good luck in the contest.
cheers,
valda

Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level

Most appropriate artwork. It appears the horses are admonishing the boat man.

This is a perfectly written acrostic sonnet. Your iambic pentameter flawless, and great rhymes too. Just another mention of the word ways used twice in quite close proximity of each other.

Still, this is a stellar sonnet and I wish you much luck with the Contest Committee.

Arrrrgggghhhh! You know, I'd already corrected myself for making that mistake two other times in the same poem. Seems a habit I find hard to break. Thanks for catching that one, Gloria. The lovely comments and shiny stars are much appreciated. Craig

An excellent acrostic, very smoothly flowing and filled with valid thoughts about the present state of humanity and our sorry world. It's very well written and I hope it will place - it should! Best wishes for it.
