How sweet of your friend, Diane! There's nothing which hurts more than watching your child hurt, and invited guests not showing up to a party is disappointing. I'm glad things worked out in the end. That flight sounds awful. I'm surprised they went ahead with it. Thanks for sharing, Beth.

This was another interesting chapter. I am glad you had a friend like Diane who did what she did to allow your daughter to have a good birthday. The trip home on the plane must have been very nerve-wracking. Thanks for sharing all this.

The nest is getting emptier and I know that's hard to deal with, not just for you, but for Connie. I was the baby of the family and my mother let me get a poodle for company. I have to say, Buffy made a much nicer sister than my own, lol.

Thanks for sharing another piece of your life,
Rhonda

Oh cool. I know Buffy meant a lot to me, as I?m sure Connie?s kitty did to her, too.

Good one, Beth. Yes, I have flown that Delta flight from L.R. to Dallas and with no more baggage than I had, they lost it. I had to buy some new clothes when arriving. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. No doubt you were glad to be on the ground.

I've never lost anything on a plane but I 've traveled with people that have. Most of the time I pack light and store it above my head.

This just mnight be a good foreshadowing: "since it was an upscale neighborhood where houses were close together, we felt safe and had little concern" A good lead in to further the plot: "We never knew who owned the lot," This is getting good. I'm picturing what the cops would say. Ooof, "who owns the property???"

It sounds like you've had some wanted and unwanted excitement in your life. Thieves are never welcome and never understand how their actions can impact a family. Getting the kids off to schools and flying were exciting. I'm not a fan of flying. I like solid ground so I get your trepidation during that flight.
Thanks for sharing your family's activities and your feelings.

I can remember how I felt when my oldest sister got married when I was seven years old. She had been so important to me I was devastated when she left to be with her Sailor husband during WWII. She was 11 years older than me and had always been there for me. I have a fear of flying as well and I know how that felt. I had to fly cross country, Nevada to Illinois, when my mother died and I was petrified, but I had to do it. Well done, Beth. Nancy:)

New Orleans was a dangerous place to me, even back in the 1970s. If there was trouble, young boys could find it in a hurry, and they didn't have to look far. I first winter I spent there, two of my closest friends were murdered from being at the wrong place at the wrong time. And it's to my understanding, it's gotten worse over the years. But where hasn't. I now live in Cincinnati, and there are murders every day, and that isn't an exaggeration.

This is true Ric, There was only one street between us and the bike path running along the lake. Several women were attacted and raped there. I didn't dare go there alone. There is gant violence and murders in Chattnooga now as well as a lot of home invasions.

Being the youngest child in a large family is very difficult. There was enough age difference between Steven and his older brothers that it was like raising an only child. Thank you for sharing this with us.

What a lovely thing to do, Diane as a scout leader rounded up some kids for Connie's party. I suppose that's what happens when one moves to another, particularly with kids, beautifully written Beth, blessings Roy
