This is a well-told and delightful story of your day at the circus. Your dad seemed to jump into fatherhood with both feet wanting to give you experiences he never had.
He was so enthusiastic to give you adventures.
Great descriptions of the circus and your feelings.
Best wishes,
Mary

This is quite a delightful, true story that you have written, and I wish you the very best in the contest I was impressed with the way that you told a story about the various things that were happening at Circus. I'm glad you shared it with us. Patricia

Wow. I can certainly feel the apprehension walking up those rickety bleacher at such a young age. You did a fine job in writing that.

Whenever we go to a baseball or football game, my wife will always be opposed to any of those last few rows high above the field!

Thanks for sharing the memory.

John

Thank you, John. Hopefully the ones on baseball an football fields are constructed to last and better put together than those temporary ones but I think you wife is smart to avoid the high ones.

Loved the humorous way you told this. And with the airplane ride and the tornado ride, you still found those bleachers more scary! That's so funny but of course, you were so little then. I am impressed that you as a little one would give up your play role to your "rival" and even though you didn't have a good time, you pretended to be so you could give your dad some sense of satisfaction. That's unusually thoughtful for a child!

Thank you for the review. I'm glad you found some humor. I guess most kids would have been excited about the circus. It took my children to one when they were young. The most interesting part was after the show, we all got to sit on elephant. That was pretty high but not high enough that I freaked out. LOL

Your story about your visit to the circus and how scary it was for you, is very well told. I am sure your father felt he was doing something very special for you, but I can understand your fear of climbing and sitting on those seats.

Thank you Roy. I did seem to sense other people need to be appreciated when I was young. I didn't want to see my parents hurt by my me acting like I didn't like something they did for me.

It looks like you are still traumatized by the tornado that destroyed your house and sent you and your mom flying. What a terrify experience and I'm glad you have survived and have had a good life. But you are willing to give up as a star at school in order to go to the Ringling Circuits show. I visited the Ringling Museum in Sarasota, Florida. It was amazing.

Well done.

Thanks for the review. Actually, storms no longer bother me. It is standing on a high place looking down that gets to me. It makes my heart speed up with I see other people do it. I don't like high wire acts.

Did you ever get over this fear of heights? I hated climbing those bleachers at basketball games in high school only because my balance was bad. An effective description of the three ring circus. Thank goodness they've gone the way of the dinosaurs.

Thanks for the review. I don't mind being airborne but if I'm standing on something looking down I get dizzy. Actually I saw they bringing back Ringling Bros. this year 3 rings but no animals.

You always throw these matter-of-fact statements in your work that makes me laugh. Like, 'Maybe no one explained to him how to prevent that from happening.'
A penny a pound? If only! Rickety bleachers do not sound fun to me either. And I laughed at the description about your beating heart.

One suggestion: You may want to put 'greatest show on earth' in quotes since it was a slogan.

A trip to the circus was certainly an adventure or maybe more of a nightmare. Thanks for sharing, Beth.

Oh dear, I really feel for you. You were scarred for life, Lol. I can just visualise it, you write it so well. I'm so glad your father didn't know, at the time, how to prevent having you. It's a gift to all of us.
How lovely you went flying at the grand old age of five. I love it. A hug, Ulla:)))

Thank you Ulla. I didn't realize until I started up those bleachers that I was afraid of heights. I always get dizzy but that time was the worse. Thank you so much for the six stars.
