That is such a sad story, Mary, you gave that poor still-born baby a voice, one that is very believable. I'm sorry it was your mother's best friend that told you, at such a young age yourself, you wouldn't have understood. I hope you father found peace, when you are grieving, you really don't know what you're saying or doing. You've told this story so well, with authors notes that complete the story. Sandra xx

A well told story from the point of view of a still born baby and what it might have thought about if it could process what happened. A sad tale, indeed, but a story that need telling.
Take care,
Rhonda

I'm glad I did, Mary. You never know when you interpret other people's work. It really was traumatic for you and your family!

Hi Mary, this story is so very sad, but it was only when I read your notes that it all became clearer. I'm so sorry that this should have happened to you at such a young age. Ulla:)))

This is a sad story, but I can't say I understood it until I read the explanation. Then I read that and didn't understand it yet. You fear Annie is still in a specimen jar? If she was a child in a jar, why would people smile at her? Actually, I've only seen one baby in a jar like that was lost many years earlier as part of a court trial and I accidently found her doing electrical work in a basement like a catacomb. Of course, I'm just one reader and could be suffering brain freeze tonight.

Thank you Carol for the review.
It was meant to tell the story of Annie in a specimen jar. The hand waving and smiling was meant not to reveal her situation until the end. Note I have her thinking and dreaming for the same reason.
Best wishes

This is so sad yet I understand this because I was the birthing coach for daughter in law. We lost our precious Esther Grace in birth trauma. One minute she was fine; then no heartbeat. In my true story, we mourned and buried her; and my daughter-in-law lived. Eleven months later our Sophia was born. She just turned nine.
Mary, I'm so sorry for you loss of Annie and your mother. What a trial for your family and you at such a young and tender age. Life is so precious and delicate.
Sending you my best today as always and a big hug. A brave thing to post.

Wow thank you for the useful notes that help explain this sad story in a poem. The end was quite shocking to me and I seldom read notes unless there is something I don't understand, so I am really glad I did. Sorry this happened.

Oh my goodness. I was very confused by the story until I read your Author's Notes. This is indeed very tragic and terrible.
I hope they don't do things like that anymore.
Seems you have recovered nicely and have become a great person.
That's a testimony to your strength!

What a haunting story. After reading your notes, the story became so terribly sad. The pretty girl with brown hair looking out the window is the deceased baby in a jar. You dad did the best thing thing by not fully explaining to a seven year old. How riveting and creative this story is.
