What a hard lesson but it's also one that's a good lesson for the kids to not go along with the crowd doing something like parking illegally. Glad you got a good taxi driver. Great descriptions of all the Mardi Gras festivities. I don't like crowds so I don't think I'd ever go. You're so adventuresome!

Oil was pronounced lie 'erl'. (like)
with my children were Spanish, (Hispanic) I think Spanish means only those from Spain.
Guatemala, Honduras and Equador. (Ecuador)

Thank you Helen, I guess I was adventurous. All those exciting things people did in books I read made me want something interesting to happen in my own life.

I can imagine that, I can when we were in Germany in 1994, our hired motor home was blocked by an illegally parked car in a drive way, so our German friend had a chain and towed the thoughtless person's car into the road, we were able to get out, but I think that person would be charged, the Germans can be sticklers for the law, beautifully written, blessings Roy

I imagine the tow trucks and pound make a lot of money on halidays like Mardi Gras. Thanks for a great review.

Another enjoyable read, Beth. I've only ever seen pictures or clips of Mardi Gras, but carnival season is an apt description for it. I wonder how much money the city made off all those impounded cars.

One suggestion: I'm not sure you need to capitalize 'gods and goddesses' since you aren't referring to a specific one.

Thanks for sharing. I look forward to reading more.

Thank you Pam. I've demoted the gods and goddesses. I knew better. lol I'm sure the city is well compensated for all those cars they tow away.

"Down in New Orleans were the blues were born, all dem cats was blowing dey horns . . . the Mardi Gras mambo." All the tourist flock to have a good time, but for regulars like me, I do all that I can to avoid the confusion and rowdy behavior. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

I enjoyed the visit to New Orleans. Your descriptions of the culture and events were so well written. I find it fascinating the cultural mores of the region.
I always wanted to go to Mardi Gras; you gave me a colorful description of the event.
Best wishes,
Mary

Thank you Mary, New Orleans was a facinating place when we were there in the early eighties. I'm glad you're enjoying my story.

I didn't realize New Orleans was such a hodge-podge of cultures - I've only been aware of the French Quarter and the Cajun folk. I can only imagine that eating there would be a feast!

There's a sentence in the next to the last paragraph that should read: By the time we'd paid for the taxi, the towing fee, and the pound, we had spent a lot of money.

Last sentence, correct "iperfect"

Your adventures in this part of Louisiana have been interesting so far. I've never been to the state, but perhaps one day!

Thanks for sharing your story.

Pam

Thank you Pam. Yes, when we lived there about 1981 it was a hodge-podge of cultures. Maybe by now they are starting to blend. I've not been back in a while.

Well done. You wrote a very nice account of the parade and your experience. Too bad about the car. (We had a similar experience in San Francisco.)
to an otherwise iperfect day. - oops
Best wishes.

Thank you Wayne. I appreciate the review and comments. When you're in a place you aren't familiar with you can do stupid things, when someone who is from there would know not to do.

I enjoyed your description of Mardi Gras festivities. But like you, I was distressed that your car was towed and getting it back was expensive. You know what they say about 'assume'.

Thank you. She I know about assume. My first boss made sure I knew. The day was fun but it ended as a bummer. Still in gave me something to write about.

I have been to New Orleans on numerous occasions, but never during Mardi Gras. It doesn't interest me. One time I was visiting there and it was just a few weeks before Mardi Gras and was decorated for it. That was nice. Thank you for sharing. I enjoyed reading.

Awwww, That was too bad. A valuable lesson however. I think many would assume the same thing so you were in good company. LOL I would love to see that parade on TV. It has never been there on my TV as I look back. I have seen bits and pieces in movies. Thanks for sharing your experience, Beth. Nancy:)

Thank you, Nancy. I appreciate the great review and comments. I've seen just bits of the paracde on local news when we lived in the area but I haven't ever seen the parade televised. I think it is too unorganized an who knows what wild thing might happen. LOL
