Well said, well written. We all have our special seating place and no matter how old and tattered it becomes, it makes a statement 'It's mine!.' Of course the family has all sorts of ideas to get rid of that special seat, all they ever do is bleat! K xx

Sometimes it is wiser to give in .The peace you get when you are out of all argument is priceless
Anyway they know what is best .even old recliners have their time
I enjoyed this 'household' gripe...
six stars as reward for your cooperation...

Hi Jim, Although I owned a clothing store in Santa Monica , California for over 25 years, I went on to owning my own private Interior Design business for the next 15 years or so...
And, I must say what you wrote is oh so true...out with the old and in with the new...
Worked for me....
Loved you poem... brought back loads of memories...

Oh my gosh, Jim, you made me laugh outright. I laughed from the start and all the way through. What we women put you men through, but you took it all in stride!!

The last sentence was the poem maker here, or the marriage maker!!

Great job and thanks for the chuckles!! You'll have to post a picture for us.

Hahaha! I enjoyed your clever and humorous story in a rhyme about your new living room. I was sorry to see your old recliner go. However, the entertainment center stayed, and your wife was happy. Enjoyable read.

I see the humor aspects in this read, finding the closing statements rather weak in comparison to former. Just my personal feeling, after flowing so smoothly down its entire course without any pits. All given in my opinion.

No worries. All opinions are welcome.

To me it was the definitive statement of what the poem was all about: that we husbands must sometimes (often?) put our feelings aside and accommodate the wives, especially when it's only money and you have it to spare. Why? Because it keeps harmony in the marriage. It's an old saw, but a very true one, dare I say a sacred one? It's worked for me for 49 1/2 years and counting.

This was fun. I get on a kick about changing things but usually talk myself out of it. But if I find an old piece of furniture that some one has discarded, look out. I will do my darndest to bring it back to life. It will then find a place in my house, whether we need it or not. Great argument on your part. But you knew it was a losing battle. Gretchen

Yes, Gretchen, I knew it would be a losing battle, especially when she got our daughter involved. Then I just had to grin and bear it. Glad you were amused by it.

Jim is such a good poem! and it's very humorous I think anyone with a family who has the Good Fortune to be able to buy new furniture can relate to this. Excellent! And I'm glad you got to keep your entertainment center! :)) Alex

Dear Poet, a very charming and humorous rhyming poem
on furniture. My daughter only
let's my son-in-law think he's
in charge. (He isn't), lol! She
decorates the house quite
creatively. I know how you
feel missing your favorite
chair. My late husband's old
black chair had to go to the
landfill when he passed away,
as we needed to sell the home and I moved in with my
daughter and her family. I
miss seeing him sitting in it.
You've penned missing your
old chair whimsically. This is
a great humor poem. My
very best wishes & blessings

Thank you, Regina, for your very sweet review. I loved the way you said your daughter lets her husband think he's in charge but he really isn't. That's quite a common thing I think.

This is such an amusing poem and lesson for many men, not one for my hubby who lets nothing in the decor be changed until it's worn to holes. It only took 3 years to get the TV hung on the wall. Fortunately, I love him.
