I can understand the reluctance to move especially since you already had land. I also understand the thrill of a new experience, and New Orleans seems like a city filled with magic. I look forward to reading more of this adventure.

You ended at a spot that made me want to beg for more! Do you have an interesting story of how you got from New Orleans to Tennessee? I'm so anxious to hear more about your move and what occurred afterward.

Thank you Jim, The next chapter called Completing the Move is posted. You'll find out about the move. How I got to Tennesse is 17 years later.

Beth, remind me, is the beginning of a book you're putting together?

What a major change you made - from an area where livestock roamed and there was room for a landing strip to an apartment in the city. It will be interesting to read how well everyone adjusted.

Happy writing!

Thank you Pam. Yes this is supposed to be the first chapter of the second Volumn of my book. I thought leaving Mississippi would be a great place to end the first one. My last baby was born in New Orleans so she insisting I hurry up and get the second one out because she doesn't exist in the first one.

I'm glad you told us this was posted and didn't show up in an PM box. I'm glad I read it. Being military, I do understand moving and moving, a lot. LOL Thank you for sharing this with us.

Thanks for the nice review. I know you've had you sare of moving with the service. Some moves have been nightmares but when the company moved us, it was much easier. I managed to enough reviews to be recognized in spite of FanStory not showing it.

I have no idea why I wasn't notified of this posting, but I'm glad you brought it to my attention, so I didn't miss it. Although, I do wish I'd read it before the last chapter. LOL. I spent every winter in New Orleans for many years racing horses at the Fairground Race Track. I kept a place to stay in Metairie for a large part of that time. Early on, I stayed at the Imperial House Hotel out by that big airplane that sat on the causeway. Of course, I'm sure none of those are still there. Thanks for sharing.

That airplane was still there which landed shortly after we moved there. There was a disco club there. I've not been back since Katrina so the airplane likely flew away. We lived a block off the lake in Metaire. At first we were in some apartment near at Causeway but we bought a house on Avron Blvd off Clearview. Thanks for reminding me of the Imperial. Do you still have race horses?
reply by Ric Myworld on 24-Jun-2023
Yes, I remember when the plane was a disco, then it just sat for years. I don't know if it's still there or not. Like you, I haven't been back since before Katrina. I was a party boy back when Fat City was more fun than Bourbon Street, which seems like an eternity. LOL. I've sold off all the farms, racing stock, and even the brood mares and babies. But I must admit, I enjoyed my time there.

Of course, I read this in your book 'Chasing the Elusive Dream', but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy your writing enough to read it again. Nicely done. You pull readers into the family.
Best wishes.

Got me. I had to return to read the piece as suggested. Did you after all, return to the farm? That's in Alabama, right? Sounds like Evan was an important cog in Chevron's once prominent position.

Thank you Tom. I appreciate the review. We never returned to live there full time. We were in New Orleans for 17 years. It was Mississippi not Alabama and Evan was a drafting supervisor so not a real cog but someone they needed at the time.

This was so well told. It was undoubtedly a difficult move to uproot your family and see your future and current plans disintegrate. Moving to a new city from country life had to be a bit of a culture shock.
I am glad I went back to read this.
Best wishes,
Mary

Thank you Mary. New Orleans was a cultural shock but I always longed for new experiencies so it was a good place to find them.

Wow, three weeks from official word to moving. Now that is short! I had one case that was 5 weeks, and I thought that was really tight... your story makes me think I should post mine, it was really exciting at the time. kay
